It has also been announced by the WDSL that the start up dates for the various age groups (Short Season) will be as follows: under-8s/under-9s – week ending Sat/Sunday, September 16/17 (PROV). under-10/under-11 – week ending Sat/Sunday, September 9/10. Under-12/under-14/ under-16s – week ending Sat/ Sunday, September 2/3.

All our teams will be back in training by next weekend. Speaking of the teams we are looking for people to help us out and get involved in assisting the club in a number of roles. We have a very small group of coaches/ committee members and they all do great work. If you think you could help us by taking a team or been an assistant coach, help with the fundraising within the club please contact the secretary at 087 6987653 or by email to hughienolan@gmail.com or contact any of our coaches or committee members or private message the club’s Facebook or Twitter pages.

One of the positions we are looking to fill is a coach with our under-8s team. This position requires a minimum of no more than 2-3 hours per week. Currently we have some one who is willing to coach the group for a couple of weeks but they already have a team so will not be able to take this position on a permanent basis. If we don’t get anyone (I’m sure we will) we may not be able to enter a team at this age group. Dates for club registration will be announced in due course.

Regards the small sided games (seven- to 11-year-olds) the WDSL are hosting a PDP course and a Q & A under the direction of Ruud Dokter from the FAI on Monday, August 28, in Rathnew and all Development Squad up to under-11s coaches and other interested parties from the club is invited to attend but must submit their name to the secretary ASAP for registration.

The WDSL in conjunction with all the clubs in the league are running a fundraiser ‘The Kube’ on Saturday, November 18, in the Parkview Hotel in Newtown. It is hoped every club will enter at least one participant to take on the Kube. The entry fee is €300 per participant which each club must pay themselves or get sponsored. Sponsored cards are available at present through any committee member. As yet the club haven’t decided who will take on the Kube on behalf of the club but we have a couple of interested parties. Anything over €300 raised on the sponsor cards goes to the club and our participant/s stands to win up to €1,500 for the club depending on how she or he does. Further information in the coming weeks.

As mentioned in the past couple of weeks some of our teams will be starting back pre-season training in the weeks ahead. The following are the training times for our teams for the week ahead: Development Squad (players born in 2011-2013) on Saturday, September 9, 10.11 a.m.; under-8s (players born in 2010) on Saturday, August 26, at 11 a.m.; under-9s (players born in 2009) on Saturday, August 26, at 11 a.m.; under-10s (players born in 2008) training Saturday, August 26, at 10.30 a.m.; under-11s (players born in 2007) training Saturday, August 26, at 10.30 a.m.; under-12s (players born in 2006) training Tuesday, August 22, at 7 p.m.; under-14s – friendly at home to Woodbrook Celtic ko at midday on Saturday, August 26; under-16s (players born in 2002/2003) training Saturday, August 26, at 10 a.m. (If unsure of times for training etc contact your child’s respective coaches)

Regards training for all teams please make sure to communicate with your child’s respective coach/s as to availability/unavailability of your child for training (it does help a lot). Failure to train or notify your coach may result in not been able to play matches when they take place.

Our under-14s played two pre-season friendlies in the past week away to Greystones and Wicklow Town and they put in a couple of very good performanc- es.
