The main performers will be Musici Ireland consisting of Mia Cooper and Jane Hackett (violins), Beth McNinch and Andreea Banciu (violas), Grainne Hope and William Butt (cellos). They will play the two Brahms string sextets. String Sextet No. 1 in B-flat major, Op. 18, was composed in 1860 and premièred in Hanover. It has four movements: I. Allegro ma non troppo, II. Andante, ma moderato, III. Scherzo: Allegro molto, IV. Rondo: Poco Allegretto e grazioso.

String Sextet No. 2 in G major, Opus 36 was composed during the years of 1864–1865 and was first performed in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 11, 1866. It also has four movements: I. Allegro non troppo, II.Scherzo – Allegro non troppo – Presto giocoso, III. Adagio, IV. Poco allegro.

Music in Calary is delighted to welcome such world class artists to perform two works which are rarely played due to their intricacy.

Tickets for the concert, which are €18 and €15 for concessions, can be booked by ringing John at 01 2818146 or emailing derekneilson@ eircom.net. Anyone thinking of attending has been advised to book their tickets as the last two concerts have been near sell-outs.
