THOUSANDS SOUGHT AS ‘VIKINGS’ EXTRAS

THE makers of the hit TV show ‘Vikings’, which is filmed in Wicklow is holding open auditions for paid extras.

Thousands of extras are being sought over 2017/18 for casual temporary roles and positions in the new series. Anyone with an interest in the Vikings TV show, Viking history, the filming process, acting or those who simply want to experience something different, meet new people and earn a few euro can apply.

The open casting days take place in Complex 10-14, Liitle Mary Street in Dublin on August 29-30 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m and in The Grand Hotel in Wicklow town on Friday, September 1 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

People from all ethnic, religious, internatio­nal background­s and heritage are sought and castings are mainly for adults and those aged 16 years and over.

There is no need for any appointmen­ts and on the day those attending will be given an applicatio­n form to fill out. In addition, a photograph of each person will be taken. To qualify, those attending must be a full time resident and living in Ireland with a working visa and PPS number. Those attending should also have an idea of their measuremen­ts including height, chest, dress, shoe sizes etc. as they will be asked to put these all on the applicatio­n form

Filming will mainly take place in Dublin and Wicklow and notice can sometimes be very short so availabili­ty should be good.

In terms of specific skills or appearance­s the film crew are looking for these include but are not limited to: fishermen, carpenters, craftspeop­le, farmworker­s, axe men/ women, skilled swords people, male and female archers, bowmen and women, male and female rowers, male and female sailors, ship hands and deckhands, calligraph­ers, Latin speakers, Arab speakers, musicians, midwives, nurses, animal handlers, hunters, blacksmith­s, lumber jacks, magicians, jugglers, tree surgeons, whittlers.

They are also looking for males with all types of haircuts especially, long hair and beards, all sporty types, martial artists, boxers, no visible tattoos; and women with all lengths of naturally coloured hair, all men prepared to grow hair and beards, Men and women with punk style haircuts.

If selected people may be called anytime between now and end of filming. When called, dates of filming and rates of pay will be discussed at the studio for fittings before the person’s first day of filming
