Enniskerry cyclists take on ‘Pedal for Pieta’

- BY MARY FOGARTY

THE ‘Pedal for Pieta’ event in aid of Enniskerry GAA and Pieta House was a great success, with 33 cyclists taking part on the day.

Sixteen of those tackled a 100km course around County Wicklow last Saturday, while 17 participated in the 50km route.

Just one lady, Orla Kearns, took on the 100km challenge.

The first in was Ultan O’Kane who did the 100km in four hours.

It was a great day and everyone enjoyed the cycle, the craic and the scenery en-route.

There was music afterwards at the Powerscourt arms, as well as a bite to eat.

The cyclists were joined by family, friends and supporters.

Gary Kavanagh of Enniskerry GAA said that there was great support. Plenty of people turned out to cheer the cyclists off and welcome them back in.

Gary himself did the 50km route which he said was very enjoyable, and ‘ tough, but not too tough’.

The conditions were perfect and there was even a nice breeze to keep everyone cool. Gary said that they are hoping to make it an annual event, and build it up to be even bigger next year.

The managed to raise at least €500, with money still coming in. The money will be divided between the two causes.
