Vandals damage cars in rampage

-

THE windows of up to 11 cars were smashed at the Florence Road car park in the early hours of Wednesday morning, August 23.

The damage was done overnight at the car park, which also has an entrance on Quinsboro Road.

An eye-witness who saw the damage in the morning said that in some cases just one window was smashed, in other cases up to three. At least one car was so badly damaged it has had to be written off.

In at least one case the motorist who came to retrieve his car was an elderly gentleman. Cars were taken from the scene by Kelly Recovery.

Gardai examined the scene and area appealing for witness who may have seen suspicious activity in the area over Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to come forward. Bray Garda Station can be contacted on (01) 6665300.

Deputy John Brady has called for additional security measures to be put in place at the car park following the acts of vandalism.

‘ This was a shocking act of destruction,’ said Deputy Brady. FOLLOWING a successful debut fight in May, Wicklow pro-boxer, Regan Buckley, will be back in the ring on September 9 for the ‘Celtic Clash 3’. The talented youngster from Bray will be moving up three weight classes to fight against another Irish, unbeaten fighter, Carl McDonald.

A coach at St Teresa’s Boxing Club in Bray, Regan ‘Rocket’ is also a two-time Irish champion. A member of his club sadly passed away from meningitis in 2015 and so the young sportsman has kindly pledged to donate 20 per cent of his earnings as a professional boxer to Meningitis Research Foundation.

Meningitis Research Foundation is working in the community to raise awareness of meningitis and septicaemia (the blood poisoning form of the disease) and offer support to families affected.

Not all types of meningitis are vaccine preventable so they seek to continue to fund research in this area and support those affected as sadly one in 10 people who contract the disease will die and one in three survivors will be left with life-changing after effects.

Caroline Krieger, Medical Information Officer, of Meningitis Research Foundation said: ‘As a Non- Government funded charity, Meningitis Research Foundation relies on the support of local communities and fundraising events to continue our vital work so we are extremely grateful to Regan for his continued support of the charity and we wish him all the best for his upcoming fight.’

Regan’s fight will take place in the national stadium in Dublin with tickets costing €40 for gallery seating and €60 for ringside seating. This will be his biggest fight to date. Meningitis Awareness Week runs from September 18 to 24.
