minutes in the second half.

At this stage it was the turn of Mick Murray’s side to up the tempo once more but they too were guilty of three bad wides in a row before Garret Bell edge his side in front with a point from a free.

This score inspired Bell’s team mates to raise their game but they found the Carnew defence a hard nut to crack with all six backs playing their part and were also left to rue three scoring chances in a row,

A typical Carnew rally saw a move involving several players resulting in Cillian Gilligan scoring a point from play and from the kick out midfielder Justin House won possession and sent a long delivery into the Hollywood square which saw Seanie Kinsella gather and he slotted home a goal to give Carnew a 1-07 to 0-07 lead after the third quarter.

The Hollywood men tried to drag themselves back into the game but found Mark Collins at centre-back in excellent form as he foiled attack after attack.

The play continue to flow but scores were few and far between which saw eight minutes without a single change to the scoreboard.

The game continued to be a hard-fought contest with many duels around the field but both sides will have to sharpen on the shooting as much stiffer tests lies ahead.

One last effort from the west men saw a free being awarded which resulted in dissent in the Carnew defence which saw the ball being moved forward. This gave Garret Bell an easy chance to slot over the bar to close the scoring.

As the game entered its final minutes a brief melee took place which saw a number of players pushing and shoving which resulted in four yellow cards being issued as John Keenan blew fulltime which saw Carnew emerge victorious.

Goals win matches and on this occasion Seanie Kinsella’s major proved to be the difference between the sides.

Following last weekend’s results the quarter-final draw sees Carnew Emmets face Ballymanus, while it’s an all west encounter between Dunlavin and DonardThe Glen in the other quarter-final clash with Rathnew and Hollywood awaiting the winners in the semi-finals. Interesting times ahead.
