BRAY BOWLS

The leaves are beginning to fall and the bowlers are getting ready to hibernate for the winter ( except for those hardy souls who play the Winter League).

Last week saw Division 4 play at home to neighbours Greystones where they got two points.

The lads finish their season away to Aer Lingus on Monday night.

Division 6 had a good away win against Shankill last Wednesday where the three points keeps them very much in the hunt for the title.

They are at home this Wednesday to leaders Crumlin. Best of luck to Damien’s band of happy warriors.

The ladies were also in action last Wednesday against CYM where they got one point.

This Wednesday they are away to Blackrock. Thursday saw Vets1 at home to Crumlin in their last game of the season and it was a happy ending with a three points to one victory.

Saturday saw the ladies team defeat Leinster at home where Liz McCarthy and Terri McKeon led the way.

They are away to Greenhills next Saturday.

Division 1 completed their season with a great five points to two victory at home to Dun Laoghaire where Tommy Cahill and Pat Brett reveled in their new roles.

Division 2 were away to Dun Laoghaire and in a thrilling game they took home two points, just losing the overall by one point.

They complete their season next Saturday with a home fixture against St. James Gate at 11.00am.

Noel O’Brien was the lucky winner of the lotto this week.

WICKLOW ROVERS

Our senior men got their season off to the perfect start last Friday night at Whitegates when they defeated Yellowstone Celtic 3-2.

The lads fell a goal behind after four minutes but showed great character to battle back to level through Maurice Dunne.

Sean Tobin added a second to send Rovers in 2-1 up at the break.

After 67 minutes, Rovers deservingly increased their lead when Mikey Delaney cut in from the left before unleashing a sweet strike into the bottom right hand corner of the net to make it 3-1.

The visitors pulled one back with six minutes remaining to make it a tense finish but the lads saw out the game to claim a well deserved three points and a winning start to the season.

This was an excellent all round team performance and if the lads can produce this form on a consistent basis they should be well in the hunt for honours this season.

Once again thanks to our match sponsors Alan and Liz Hegarty of The Lighthouse Restaurant, your kind sponsorship was very much appreciated.

NEWTOWN JUNIORS

Our under-12s, 14s and 16s will finalise their preparations for the start of the “short season” in the coming week as next weekend they are back in action in the WDSL.

All three teams have unfortunately lost key players from last season but I am also glad to report that they all have recruited some new players.

There are however a couple of positions left on each team so if you have a boy or girl interested in playing please contact the secretary at the number below.

The following are the fixtures for the week-ending Saturday and Sunday, September 2 and 3:

Under-12s at home to Wicklow Rovers, KO Saturday at 11.30am.

Under-14s at home to Rathnew F.C., KO Sunday at 11am.

Under-16s away to Arklow United, KO to be confirmed.

(Fixtures and KO Times are subject to change).

It has also been announced by the WDSL that the start up dates for the various age groups (Short Season) will be as follows:

Under-8s/Under-9s week-ending Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17.

Under-10/uUnder-11 week-ending Saturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10.

Apart from the Development Squad all our teams from under-8s up to under-16s are back in training.

Speaking of the teams we are looking for people to help us out and get involved in assisting the club in a number of roles.

We have a very small group of coaches/committee members and they all do great work.

If you think you could help us by taking a team or been an assistant coach, help with the fundraising within the club please contact the Secretary at 087 6987653 or by email to hughienolan@gmail.com or contact any of our coaches or committee members or private message the club’s Facebook or Twitter pages.

Our appeal last week for coaches and committee members seems to have bore fruit as a couple of people have expressed an interest in helping out with the under-8s and also getting involved with admin/fund-raising within the club.

We are still looking for helpers be it as coaches or on the committee and again I’ll repeat it would involve no more than a couple of hours per week.

Also if there are any teenagers who would be interested in getting involved in coaching please contact our Secretary and we will assist in any way.

Dates for club registration will be announced in due course.

In the past couple of weeks there has been interest in starting up an under-18s girl’s team to play in the Dublin Metropolitan Girls Leagues or the MGL as we like to call it.

A training session has been called for Thursday, September 7, at 7pm in the top pitch.

If the interest is there but more importantly the commitment for both training and matches is there, we will certainly be delighted to have an under-18 girls team in the club once again.

For further details if interested please contact Hughie at the number below.

The WDSL in conjunction with all the clubs in the league are running a fundraiser “The Kube” on Saturday, November 18, in the Parkview Hotel in Newtown.

It is hoped every club will enter at least one participant to take on the Kube.

The entry fee is €300 per participant which each club must pay themselves or get sponsored. Sponsored cards are available at present through any committee member.

As yet the club haven’t decided who will take on the Kube on behalf of the club but we have a couple of interested parties.

Anything over €300 raised on the sponsor cards goes to the club and our participant/s stands to win up to €1,500 for the club depending on how she or he does. Further information in the coming weeks.

As mentioned above all our teams are back in training. Parents if unsure of training times should contact their child’s respective coach and if unavailable should notify the coach, preferably before training/matches.

Failure to train or notify your coach may result in not been able to play matches when they take place and may result in losing your place to another player.

Under-8s (players born in 2010) Saturday 2nd September to be confirmed.

Under-9s (players born in 2009) Saturday 2nd September to be confirmed.
