Dan has the Golden touch
BRAY resident Dan Golden has had the Midas touch at the 17th FINA World Masters Swimming Championships in Budapest recently.
A member of NAC Masters Swimming Club, Dan won gold on Wednesday, August 16, in the 50m butterfly event (65-70 age group) in a time of 30.09 seconds.
This time sets a new FINA World Masters Swimming Championship record also. He also took fifth place in both the 50m and 100m freestyle events.
The FINA World Championships take place every two years, with this year’s event running from August 7 to 20.
NAC Masters is one of Ireland’s largest and most successful masters swimming clubs. Founded in 1988, the club has grown steadily in both membership numbers and reputation. “Masters” is the term given to competitive swimming for anyone over 25 years old.
Jackie O’Connor, Chairperson, NAC Masters said, “We’re very proud of Dan’s performances at the World Masters.
“He’s competing against the best masters swimmers in the world, so it’s fantastic to see him bring home gold.
“I know he has been training really hard in recent months and was thrilled to be travelling.”
