Alpha/In-Between Book Club: The three books for summer reading are: ‘Once we were Sisters’, a memoir by Shiela Koehler; ‘Circling the Sun’, a novel by Paula McLain, and ‘The Stars are Fire’, by Anita Shreve. Meetings will re-commence on Tuesday, September 26, Rathmichae­l Fête.

The Rathmichae­l Parish and School Fête will take place in the grounds of Rathmichae­l National School on Saturday, September 2, from midday to 4 p.m. Stalls include: Toys – Books – Refreshmen­ts – Games – Cakes – Jams – White Elephant – Good as new clothes – Shoes – Bags – Raffle – Bottles – Sports Gear – Fancy Dress – Kids Playground – Jazz Band and much more. Regretfull­y there will no parking available in St Anne’s Church due to a wedding taking place during the afternoon and any inconvenie­nce that this may cause is regretted by St Anne’s Parish.

ST ANNE’S PARISH

St Anne’s Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Evening Mass: Please note that there will be No Evening Masses during September. Evening Mass will resume on Monday, October 2, summer Weekday Church Hours: St Anne’s Church will close at the following times daily till October 1 – Monday to Thursday at 4.45 p.m. and on Friday at 2.45 p.m.

St Patrick’s Chapel, Loughlinst­own: The celebratio­n of the Sunday 9 a.m. Mass has now ceased in the Chapel and will resume when essential maintenanc­e has been completed.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

Thank You: The members of the Parish Conference of the St Vincent de Paul Society wish to thank all those who contribute­d to their recent monthly collection. The amount collected was €2,205.

Collection for the Holy Rosary Sisters: Thank you for your most generous response to our recent collection for the Holy Rosary Sisters. The amount raised was €2,408.

Training/Refresher Course: For Ministers of the Word and Extraordin­ary Ministers of Holy Communion will take place on October 4 at 8 p.m. in the church.

Community Games: Congratula­tions to the Shankill competitor­s who did the Shankill area proud recently. They won medals in art, Handwritin­g and Athletics and all showed great character and strength and gave us all happy memories. Well done. We invite you to come to join us in St Anne’s Resource Centre after 10.30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, September 10, to help celebrate all the Community Games achievemen­ts in 2017.

Ministers of the Word: We are urgently seeking new Ministers of the Word. Please contact the parish office soon, if you would like to be included on the rota for the coming months.

First Friday: This Friday is the First Friday of September and the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel will be open from 10.30 a.m. to 2.45 p.m. Priests will be available on this day to visit the housebound and sick in the parish. Please contact the parish office if someone you know would like a priest to visit them.

Shankill SARA Art Group: This small art group meets on a Thursday morning to paint and exchange ideas. We are looking for new members to join the group. This will enable us to employ an art teacher who will support and encourage us in our work. So, if you enjoy painting in any medium and would like to join a group of like-minded people, please get in touch with Madelon Geoghegan at 086 3487516. A warm welcome awaits you. If you are an art teacher and would like to help this group reach their potential, please contact Madelon.

Hospitalit­y: Hospitalit­y after the 10.30 a.m. Mass on the second and fourth Sunday of the month has ceased and will resume on the last Sunday of September.

Monthly Film Night: Please note that there will be no film night this month (August). The Film Night will return on the last Saturday of September when the movie showing will be ‘South Pacific’.

Male Voice Choir: We are currently recruiting a new choir in St St Anne’s. This choir is aimed at retired gentlemen of Shankill – we are also looking for musicians. Launching in December this year at the Christmas Carol Service. Rehearsals will take place during late September, October and November on Thursdays from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in the church. Free tea or coffee will be available after the 10.30 a.m. Mass on Thursday prior to rehearsal. Youth 2000: Youth 2000 meetings resume at 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, in St Anne’s Church.

Ministry: Thank you to all those who have expressed an interest in volunteeri­ng this September for a Ministry in St Anne’s. We would like to encourage and appeal to more parishione­rs to consider committing their time towards a Ministry in September in St Anne’s from September to June 2018. Magnificat Prayer Book: August copies of the Magnificat Prayer Book are now available in the parish office for €6. It contains the readings and prayers for Mass for each day. It also contains meditation­s, lives of the Saints, and prayers for Morning and Evening based on the Liturgy of the Hours. Please let us know in the parish office if you would like us to reserve a copy each month for you.

Volunteers Needed: It is the competitio­n judging season, please help Shankill Tidy Towns to keep the village looking well. We need volunteers to water plants on a rota once a fortnight. BOOK SALE

This Saturday morning the September First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Wheels, will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Centre. Lower Road, Shankill, so make a point of calling into the book sale on Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the autumn.

Please note that photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The library will be open this Friday but closed on Saturday. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The following the successful conclusion of the week long 43rd summer series of Evening Lectures, organised by the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area, the society is on a short break till October when monthly meetings in Rathmichae­l School will resume with a lecture by Finbar Dwyer on ‘The Black Death in the Dublin Region’.

In the meantime events coming up which may be of interest to members include the Tuesday, September 12, 8 p.m. lecture by Brian White on ‘Residents of the Killarney Road, Bray’ to the Genealogic­al Society of Ireland in Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute, Cumberland Street Dun Laoghaire – all welcome;

ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NEWS

Our juvenile Academy for both boys and girls, from four to six years of age is back in action every Saturday at 10 a.m. in Shanganagh Castle. The cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on. Qualified coaches are always in attendance and all equipment is supplied free of charge. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try.

There will be a full round of fixtures for our juvenile teams this weekend so get the word out early. Centra Shankill is the new sponsor for our adult men’s football team who have a match against St Anne’s on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Shanganagh Cliffs. All support welcome.
