Two Marys event raises €4,500 for cancer support

-

The Two Marys memorial charity golf classic took place recently, and the organisers managed to raise €4,500 for Greystones Cancer Support.

This was the 15th year of the event which was set up by family and friends due to the tragic deaths of Mary Nolan and her daughter Mary Bradshaw in 2003.

They both suffered from cancer and died within one week of each other.

A record entry of 47 teams topped off an outstanding day at Greystones GolfCclub on Friday, June 23.

The format of the competition for this year was two shot-gun starts with a four-person scramble team event and the day proved to be an outstanding success with 188 people representing 47 teams taking part.

The winning team with a superb score of 53.8 was Greystones golf professional Karl Holmes together with Marcus Looby, Danny O’Connor and David Kirby.

The longest drive for Men was won by Alex Coffey while Paula Whiston won the ladies longest drive. Nearest the pin was won by Paul Dunne and Paula Whiston.

‘We would like to thank all our sponsors and especially Greystones Golf Club for their generosity and support in hosting this event,’ said a spokesman. ‘ The support from our sponsors enables the event to take place and raise much needed funds for this very worthwhile local charity.’
