LARAGH

We played our last league game last Tuesday at home against a determined Aughrim team.

It was point for point in the first 10 minutes with our points coming from Keith Lawlor, Damien Hanlon and Keith again.

We went two points ahead with scores from mark Miley and a John Nolan free.

Aughrim pulled it back to a point with eight minutes left in the first half.

At this stage we were starting to get on top of the game and after some great play the ball ended up with Keith Lawlor who calmly finished to the back of the net.

We added three more points before half time with the scores coming from Eamonn Kennedy mark Miley and another John Nolan free.

Aughrim added a free with the last kick of the half. Half time score 1-08 to 0-06.

We started the second half slow and Aughrim added two frees before Eamonn Kennedy fisted over the bar for the second time tonight. Aughrim added another free followed by a John Nolan free.

With the game getting tight around the pitch Aughrim cane at us strong and added a goal to put two points in it.

But with 10 minutes left we pulled away and hit them for 1-02 with a Keith Lawlor point and the goal coming after a great run from the full back line from peter Merrigan who put it on a plate for myles conway to finish the game off and a final score from John Nolan finished the game on a score line 2-12 to 1-08.

That’s us done in the league we finished mid table which was excellent for our first year back in a while in Division 2.

Next up is our championship semi-final. Date to be confirmed. Thanks again for the great support.

On Saturday, September 9, we will be holding our Annual David Cullen Cup Day. This will start at 2pm and finished around 5pm.

Once everything is finished up we will then be holding our Duck Race at Glendalough Hotel we hope this will start around 5.30pm. There’s still some lines available for anyone looking to purchase a Duck at a cost of €10 from any committee member or in McCoys shop.

The final game in Aughrim saw St Patrick’s Senior ladies take on Tinahely who were chasing their sixth title in seven years.

In a very tight match with excellent football played and the Pat’s defence in particular doing very well there were two points in it at half-time: Tinahely 0-07, St. Patricks 0-05.

In the second half, St Patrick’s started well and scored three points without reply to go ahead.

An unfortunate deflection saw Tinahely score their first goal to go four points clear.

The girls dug deep and battled back to be within a point in the last minutes.

Lady luck deserted the Pats girls after a fine save from Jennifer Lyons rebounded into the path of the Tinahely midfielder who scored the decisive goal.

Unfortunately, the goals were telling in the end but the girls left nothing on the pitch. We are so proud of each and every one of the Senior ladies team. Although we lost, be proud of the performance you put in, we are a young team and can only take positives from today’s display. You never gave up we will be back next year stronger than ever!.

ÉIRE ÓG GREYSTONES

PEIL - The race for the Miley Cup is in its final stages and the moment of truth has arrived for the Éire Óg Senior footballers who play an all-ornothing quarter-final against Baltinglass in Joule Park Aughrim on the evening of this Saturday 9th. Will you be there to help push them over the line? The lads will surely need the help of your encouragement.

IOMÁINT - It was proven once again that our senior hurlers are intent on causing their followers to have nervous breakdowns.

After leading all the way, thanks to a goal by Hughie O’Neill, in the Dacia quarter-final on Saturday night against Carnew they allowed themselves to slip a point behind just on 60 minutes.

The ‘Pooch’ Cranley, a la Joe Canning, saved the day with a pressure point on the stroke of full-time. There is talk about the replay being on the 16th.

PEIL NA MBAN Our mná are in the final of the County Junior Championship in which their opponents will be the ladies of Barndarrig. In a game which could justly be described as being worthy of the final of the competition they defeated Kilbride from over the hills at home on the score 4-13 to 2-7.

To be participating in a County Final in the 1st season after the team’s formation is a great achievement for this Éire Óg side –particularly as 9 of the girls played u-16 in 2016. The experience of Tracey O’Halloran and Kellie Ryder in the forwards and Ciara Patrick at full-back proved invaluable.

The level of skill and teamwork displayed by the players on this occasion must be a source of huge satisfaction to their mentors.

FAOI 14 - Not to be outdone our u-14 cailíní have made their way to the semi-finals of the A Championship by virtue of a 3-8 to 3-7 victory over St Pats at home.

Even writing the score induces a frisson of excitement. At the interval Éire Óg led 1-5 to 0-4 and were motoring nicely until about the 45th minute. At this point they were ahead by four points.

Then St Pats struck. Two rapid-fire goals had them in front by two points with 10 minutes on the clock. Greystones then scored a goal to give them a precarious one-point lead. How precarious is illustrated by the fact that St Pats earned two penalties in the remaining fiercely contested spell.

That, under the circumstances, Éire Óg came away with the win is due in large measure to the heroics of goalie Alanna Ní Sheáin who saved both penalties.

We all wish a speedy recovery from injury to Aisling Leonard and Erin Wiley. COOLBOY

Croke Park is the place to be on Sunday 17th September as Dublin take on Mayo in this years All-Ireland football final.

Coolboy GAA have two separate draws for a ticket to the game. Lines are €2 each and available from The Little Moon, Christy’s and any footballer or committee member. The draws will take place on Sunday at 9.30pm in The Little Moon. Best of luck folks!

For our lads, unfortunately it’s the end of the road in this year’s Junior A Championship after narrowly missing out on the final Quarter-Final place to St. Pats by 1-12 to 1-10. Each player played with tremendous heart and pride for themselves, their friends and family and most importantly for Coolboy GAA in front of the many loyal supporters that travelled to all our games around the county this year.

On behalf of the committee we can’t thank each of you and the management team enough for the true effort shown throughout the year.

We also wish Liam Nolan and James Gregan a very speedy recovery after picking up injuries at the match on Friday evening.

AGB’s Junior ladies were in the county final on Sunday where they played St. Pat’s in the championship battle to retain their title as county champions.

Unfortunately the AGB ladies were deafeated after a great match where the girls gave everything they had. Tremendous efforts and skill were used on the pitch with each player wanting that win. The final score finished 1-06 to 5-05.

Well done to the Junior ladies and their management from all at AGB, to make it to the final again and play so well is a huge achiement and one to be very proud of.

U13 boys were both at home on Monday evening and both had two successful wins in their groups. AGB’s U13s finished 7-07 to 6-06 An Tochar. AGB’s U13s finished 7-02 to 3-07 St Hugh’s. Well done teams and coaches!

U15 boys had a great win in the Championship first round over Michael Dwyers last Wednesday. Final score was 6-08 to 1-06. Scorers were Patrick, Joe and Alan with points and Goals were from Joe, Alan, Liam and Patrick.

U17 Boys finished 3-07 to Baltinglass 4-06 on Monday evening in Carnew, in their first match of the Championship. A tough first half saw the U17s come under pressure but they turned the game around in the second half. The second half indicates there is a promising championship ahead for this young U17 team. They will play Tinahely in their next championship match.
