Dreaming of silverware

WITH the Wicklow Football League returning after the summer break at the weekend, soccer clubs the length of the breadth of the county will be dreaming of collecting silverware after nine months of hard graft.

The link-up with the Leinster Football League will continue, although there will be no LFL clubs in the Andy McEvoy Premier Division.

However, they will have teams lining out in the Pat O’Toole Division 1 and Division 2, with Division 3 made up of clubs solely from the Garden County.

Three Wicklow sides will compete in an Under-20 division, alongside six teams from the capital, while the John Tobin Youth League will be a combined Under-17/Under-18 competitio­n.

The full compositio­n of the various leagues at present are as follows:

Andy McEvoy Premier Division: Ashford Rovers, Rathnew AFC, Newtown United, Carnew AFC, Avonmore FC.

Pat O’Toole Division 1: Park Orient FC, Tallaght City, FC Locomotive, Dynamo Dublin, Rathnew AFC, Arklow Celtic, St. Peter’s FC, Roundwood AFC, Ashford Rovers.

Division 2: Arklow United, Greystones United, St. Patrick’s AFC, Glencormac United, Park Celtic, Bohemians SC, Old Court Celtic, Templeogue United, Imperium FC, Frankfort FC.

Division 3: Rathnew AFC, Dearg Celtic, Shamrock Celtic, Carnew Celtic, Ballywaltr­im FC, Aughrim Rangers, Carnew AFC, Arklow Celtic, Arklow United, Conary United.

U-20 Division: Knockmitte­n United, Wicklow Town AFC, Arklow Utd, Carnew AFC, Knocklyon FC, Castleknoc­k Celtic, Tymon Celtic, Willows FC, Railway Union.

John Tobin Youth League: Ashford Rovers, Arklow Town, Roundwood AFC, Avonmore FC, Aughrim Rangers, Wicklow Rovers A, Wicklow Rovers B.
