Alpha/In-Between Book Club: The three books for discussion at the Tuesday, September 26, meeting are: ‘Once we were Sisters’, a memoir by Shiela Koehler; ‘Circling the Sun’, a novel by Paula McLain, and ‘The Stars are Fire’, by Anita Shreve.

The Parish Fête: Last Saturday many months of planning and hard work Rathmichae­l Parish Fête committee came to a successful conclusion with the holding of this annual event in the grounds of Rathmichae­l National School in excellent weather and as always drew an excellent attendance of regular supporters and visitors from near and far. The organising committee thanks all those who supported this event in any way, especially those who sponsored prizes for the raffle. After a short break, work on planning and organising next year’s event will commence.

ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. And 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Evening Mass: Please note that there will be No Evening Masses during this month. Evening Mass will resume on Monday, October 2, summer Weekday Church Hours: St Anne’s Church will close at the following times daily till October 1 – Monday to Thursday at 4.45 p.m. And on Friday at 2.45 p.m.

St Patrick’s Chapel, Loughlinst­own: The celebratio­n of the Sunday 9 a.m. Mass has now ceased in the Chapel and will resume when essential maintenanc­e has been completed.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

Training/Refresher Course: For Ministers of the Word and Extraordin­ary Ministers of Holy Communion will take place on October 4 at 8 p.m. in the church.

Community Games Winners: Congratula­tions are extended to the Shankill competitor­s who did the Shankill area proud recently and won medals in art, Handwritin­g and Athletics with all showing great character and strength and giving us all happy memories. Well done. We invite you to come to join us in St Anne’s Resource Centre this Sunday morning after 10.30 a.m. Mass to help celebrate all the 2017Commun­ity Games achievemen­ts.

Ministers of the Word: We are urgently seeking new Ministers of the Word. Please contact the parish office soon, if you would like to be included on the rota for the coming months.

Shankill SARA Art Group: This small art group meets on a Thursday morning to paint and exchange ideas. We are looking for new members to join the group. This will enable us to employ an art teacher who will support and encourage us in our work. So, if you enjoy painting in any medium and would like to join a group of like-minded people, please get in touch with Madelon Geoghegan at 086 3487516. A warm welcome awaits you. Thank You: On behalf of Trócaire, we would like to thank all our parishione­rs who contribute­d so generously to the East Africa Appeal in July. The money raised has funded the purchasing of vital medical supplies, survival kits with food/water/shelter and education and evacuation training for those affected by recent floods in East Africa. This will help to transform the lives of many.

St Anne’s Parish Pastoral Council: The next Parish Pastoral Council Meeting will take place in St Anne’s Resource Centre this coming Monday at 8 p.m. New ideas and suggestion­s for our parish are always welcome and may be placed in the Suggestion­s Box at the end of the church or email st.annes_parishoffi­ce@ yahoo.ie.

Wednesday Prayer Meetings: Resume tonight (Wednesday) from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. If you would like to join the prayer group, please leave your name and phone number in the parish office.

Hospitalit­y: Hospitalit­y after the 10.30 a.m. Mass on the second and fourth Sunday of the month has ceased and will resume on the last Sunday of September.

Monthly Film Night: The next Film Night takes place at 8 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, in St Anne’s Resource Centre when the film being screened with be ‘Pacific Height’ starring Melanie Grffith, Michael Keaton, and Matthew Modine. All welcome – admission free.

Male Voice Choir: We are currently recruiting a new choir in St St Anne’s. This choir is aimed at retired gentlemen of Shankill – we are also looking for musicians. Launching in December this year at the Christmas Carol Service. Rehearsals will take place during late September, October and November on Thursdays from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in the church. Free tea or coffee will be available after the 10.30 a.m. Mass on Thursday prior to rehearsal. If you would like to get involved as a singer or musician, please leave your name and mobile number in the parish office – call 01 2822277 – and your name will be added to the list for text message reminders and updates.

Youth 2000: Youth 2000 meetings resume at 8 p.m. tomorrow night (Thursday) in St Anne’s Church. We invite all 16- to 35-year-olds, to join Youth 2000 in St Anne’s Church, Shankill, every Thursday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. to gather for a time of adoration, prayer, music, reflection and fellowship, followed by a cup of tea and social from 9 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

Christmas Fair 2017: We have begun the process of planning our parish Christmas Fair for 2017. This is our main fundraiser to provide for the maintenanc­e of our church. This year, we are appealing to any members of our congregati­on who may feel they can help with sponsorshi­p of the prize money. If you can help, please speak to Fr John, Martin Walsh, or Pat Maguire.

Men’s coffee morning: The Men’s coffee morning takes place every Friday from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Please join us if you are free.

BOOK SALE

Last Saturday morning the September First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Wheels, took place between 10 a.m. And 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Centre. Lower Road, Shankill. There were lots of excellent bargains on offer and it was very hectic busy morning for the FSBS volunteers as many people opted to visit the book sale while waiting for the Rathmichae­l Parish Fête to open at noon.

The October First Saturday Book Sale will take place between 10 a.m. And 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Day Centre, so make a point of calling into the book sale on Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the autumn.

Donations of books which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Please note that photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. And from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The library will be closed this Friday but open on Saturday. The parents and Toddler Group meets on Monday mornings (except bank holiday Mondays and the second Monday of the month) from 10.30 a.m. to 11.20 a.m.

Monthly meetings the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area, in Rathmichae­l School will resume at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, in Rathmichae­l School, Stonebridg­e with a lecture by Finbar Dwyer on ‘The Black Death in the Dublin Region’.

In the meantime events coming up which may be of interest to members include the Tuesday, September 12, 8 p.m. lecture by Brian White on ‘Residents of the Killarney Road, Bray’ to the Genealogic­al Society of Ireland in Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute, Cumberland Street Dun Laoghaire – all welcome;

The Wednesday, September 20, 8 p.m. lecture by Rod Goodbody on ‘The Martello Towers of the Dublin Coastline’ to the Dun Laoghaire Borough Historical Society in the Royal Marine Hotel, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire – all welcome, admission €3.50;

ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. And 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NEWS

Our juvenile Academy for both boys and girls, from four to six years of age is in action every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Shanganagh Castle. The cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on. Qualified coaches are always in attendance and all equipment is supplied free of charge. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try. To all of our juvenile players who are returning to school this week we wish them good luck and work hard in the coming year.

All of our teams are back in training ready to go, so let the fun and games begin. News Flash, Gaelic4mot­hers and others is on the way watch this space.
