002 BRIDGE CLUB

YOGA

MATHS LESSONS

Rebecca Delamere will be running maths classes for Secondary School students in Roundwood Parish Hall. MUSIC IN CALARY

The Janet Ashe Memorial Concert will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 8, in Calary Church, when Musici Ireland will play the two Brahms string sextets. Musici Ireland is a collaborat­ion between many of Ireland’s leading musicians, who are all highly regarded soloists, chamber and orchestral musicians.

Music in Calary is delighted to welcome them to perform two works which are rarely played due to their intricacy. WALKING CLUB

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action every Wednesday evening starting September 6 meeting at 7 p.m. at the Coach House car park. Everyone welcome to walk at your own pace for approximat­ely one hours at the Vartry Reservoirs.

ROUNDWOOD HISTORICAL

The Roundwood Historical Society’s next talk in the 2017 Series will take place on Tuesday, September 12, at 20 p.m. in the Roundwood Parish Hall and will be given by Ian Cantwell. The title of the talk is ‘Friends In Times of Turmoil: the story of Consul Dobrzynski, the first Polish diplomat to Ireland’.

Consul Dobrzynski left behind an Irish daughter, the late Krystyna, who wrote a biography in 1998, and who in turn passed the inherited memory to her son, Ian Cantwell. Their combined research has now resulted in the talk above and an exhibition on Dobrzynski’s life, which opened at the Royal Irish Academy earlier this year and is currently touring other venues in the country. Ian is a member of Roundwood and District Historical and Folklore Society and former administra­tor of the annual weekend historical seminar from 1993 to 1997. Ian was also editor of our annual historical journal from 1994-1997. As well as a BA (Hon), History and Geography from Trinity College, Ian also has a M.Sc. in Palaeoecol­ogy from Queen’s University, Belfast. He has been employed as a Genealogis­t, trained with the Genealogic­al Office, Ireland and also worked with Duchas Family History Services and the Glendaloug­h Monastic Trust as part of his varied career.

VARTRY WALKS

The current path developmen­t and tree care works are being carried out under the forest service neighbourw­ood grant scheme in conjunctio­n with vartry waterworks and Roundwood and district community council. The tree care work is required to make some trees safe and to promote the developing understore­y trees in the interest of long term woodland developmen­t. 2018 TOUR

A three star Algarve Coast and Country trip will take place on February 27, 2018, for seven nights which will include visits to Silves, Lagos, Sagres and Faro.
