THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE A+
MAIN STREET – GRADE A. The overall appearance along this long stretch of road was of a very freshly presented and maintained main shopping street. The paving was particularly fresh and clean, enhanced by some ornamental trees. BRAY TOWN PARK – GRADE A.
Extensive work has taken place at the main entrance with a lovely new paved and planted area. A new approach to Bray Town Park from the bridge was the boardwalk – it looked great and is a lovely addition to this riverside environment. The park itself was in good order with some nice paving along the walled area beside the river. There was a virtual absence of litter within the park. BRAY TRAIN STATION – GRADE
B. Considerable work had taken place with regard to the landscaping of the front area of the station – major cutting back had taken place and large planter boxes had been installed. There was some food-related litter along the railway line at the level crossing. An overflowing industrial-sized bin to the rear of the car park also contributed to the downgrading of this site. BRAY PROMENADE – GRADE
A. This is one of the few sites where, if a Grade A+ existed, this site would be worthy of it. The promenade itself and the immediate environs were in excellent order, not just completely clear of all litter but beautifully presented and maintained. The ironworks for the seating area were being painted. The playground and PE equipment were in very good order. BRAY HEAD – GRADE A. The pathway leading up to the walk in the woods had a virtual absence of litter. The wooded area was clear of litter. Towards the top of Bray Head it was clear that the area had suffered gorse fire with extensive stretches of blackened remains – from a litter perspective, it did mean there was no opportunity for litter to lurk.
CAR PARK OFF MAIN STREET AND QUINSBORO ROAD – GRADE
C. As was noted in IBAL 2016, this car park was like two car parks – the area off Quinsboro Road was generally fine with the surface in good order but the area off Main Street was a completely different story, with the perimeter heavily littered with all manner of debris. UPPER DARGLE ROAD – GRADE
C. For many many years in the IBAL survey this road has got a Grade C. The same isolated areas continue to bring down its overall ranking. The area near the entrance to Fassaroe had discarded tyres, the remains of a fire and very heavy levels of cans and bottles, much of it alcohol related. Graffiti was also pronounced in a few areas. BRAY RECYCLE FACILITY AT
BOGHALL ROAD – GRADE B. A marked improvement was noted at this ‘managed’ facility, including placing the signage at much more accessible level. The outdoor parking space had been resurfaced and this contributed to the overall presentation but also the
shrubberyaroundtheperimeterhadbeen tidied up. A nice feature of this facility is the Community Garden to the rear. VEVAY APPROACH ROAD –
GRADE A. The road surface, signage and markings were in good order. There were a few minor incidents of graffiti closer to the centre of Bray. N11 CONNECTING ROAD –
GRADE A. The overall impression created along this very busy main road was very good. Grass areas had been freshly cut and there was a virtual absence of litter.
