Warning after bogus calls made

-

GARDAI have advised people to be vigilant in the wake of a number of bogus callers in the area.

In the Shankill area, a young man was calling to doors last week claiming to be a member of Seomra Bray Youth Centre looking for donations or sponsorship for a walk in aid of the Simon Community.

The organisation said that neither Seomra nor any Bray Youth Service or Crosscare projects or groups raise money in this way.

Meanwhile, residents of Bray received phone calls from someone pretending to be from Bray Credit Unin.

A mamber of Bray Credit Union reported one such call. The caller requested personal details such as name, address, and date of birth.

‘We at Bray Credit Union will never phone a member directly unless they have requested a service we provide and would be expecting a call,’ said the organisation.

Garda Declan Lynch of Bray Garda Station said any genuine caller to a house should be able to provide identification. He said that you are not obliged to answer the door, or entertain any caller of whom you are unsure. If you have any concerns, contact the gardai.

The Credit Union can be contacted on (01) 2862624 and Bray Garda Station on (01) 6665300.
