-

A book launch and talk on the great Irish Famine will take place at Greystones Library on Thursday, September 14, at 7 p.m.

The book is ‘Gold is the Dawn’ by local historian Charles Egan. This is the concluding book in his historical fiction trilogy.

This follows on from ‘The Killing Snows’ and ‘The Exile Breed’.

Gold is the Dawn follows a group of characters fighting for survival, both those eking out an existence in Ireland and those forced to flee to England and America where hunger still stalked them as they worked on the waterfronts and coal mines of America and the railways and building sites of England.

Charles will present a short talk on the history of the famine in Wicklow in particular, followed by a reading and a book signing.

admission is free but places need to be reserved by phoning the library on (01) 2873548.
