Ross O’Brien’s goal was key to the ultimate victory by Rathnew. The recently returned centre-half back made a long run and thumped the ball home to the back of the Kiltegan net and effectively killed the game off as a contest.

From there any hope of a Kiltegan recovery was more or less at an end and it was a matter of Rathnew seeing out the game for victory and a place in the Senior football championship semi-final.
