THE National Roads Authority has announced that construction is expected to get underway on the planned upgrading of the N11 from Kilmacanogue to Glen of the Downs in 1997.
The go-ahead was announced last weekend as part of a wider announcement which also confirmed work is to begin shortly on the long awaited Arklow bypass.
Commenting on the announcement, NRA Chief Executive Michael Tobin said the provision of the Arklow bypass and other projects in the planning stage along the N11 in Wicklow would greatly improve access to ports on the East and South East coasts, as well as easier and quicker access for motorists on this important strategic corridor.
‘Wicklow County Council has been engaged in a major land acquisition programme involving over 100 parcels of land and close to 80 landowners in connection with the Kilmac- Glen of the Downs scheme alone, which is expected to cost £20 million.
