COUNCIL ELECTIONS

Well done to all the students who ran for the Student Council Elections 2017-2018 on Monday, September 4. According to the counting committee, the election was very close for the number of seats available. Congratula­tions to the following students who were successful­ly elected onto the council.

First Year: Evan Burke and Mia Longmore. Second year: Shane Collins and Aisling Goff. Third Year: Lucy Short and Seán Douglas. TY: Maggie May Ryan and Kian Marrah. Fifth Year: Aisling Dalby and Lee Timmons. Sixth Year: Ynonne Kavanagh and Ronan O’Kelly.

The focus of the fist council meeting will look at the area of diversity within the school. The SC coordinato­r Mr Rice is looking forward to working with the new council and we wish all involved the very best for the upcoming year.

HEALTH PROMOTION

Coláiste Chraobh Abhann will be awarded a HPS (Health Promotion Schools) Flag on October 4 This is a joint initiative by the HSE and the Department of Education to promote ‘Health and Well Being’in our school community.

This flag recognises the hard work of a 14-person committee, made up of students, parents and teachers led by Ms Stephanie Egan. The committee worked on this project over a two-year period, striving to promote a positive mental health awareness in both our school lives and our home lives. Congratula­tions to all involved.

BOARD OF MANAGEMENT

The board of management meeting will take place on Monday, September 11, from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. in Coláiste Chraobh Abhann.

OPEN NIGHT

Coláíste Chraobh Abhann’s Open Night will take place on Thursday, September 21, from 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come meet our staff and students and get a flavour of what makes Coláiste Chraobh Abhann so special.

Take a tour around the school and see the wonderful facilities in use by students from all years. Speak with our experience­d teachers about the broad subject choices in our Junior Cert, Transition Year, Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied programme. Also sample what our extracurri­cular programme has to offer, including the school musical, sport clubs, school choir, drama club, student council and much much more.

FOOTBALL

The Trophy Match between the CCA under-17s and CCA under-19s team took place on Wednesday, September 6, in St Anthony’s. It was a hard fought match with the under-17s edging it 4-3 with two magnificen­t goals by Jack Elliott. The under-17s Manager, Mr Sweeny, was ‘delighted’ with his team’s victory. Mr Hughes, the manager of the under-19s team, was unfortunat­ely unavailabl­e for comment. day 4.15-5.30 for boys first sixth year; Tuesday 4.15-5.30 for girls minor first and second year; Wednesday 1.30-3.00 for girls junior third year and senior fourth sixth year.

RUGBY

Luke Thompson was given the honour of captain of the Leinster youths to face Ulster last weekend with Paddy Mackenzie starting at out half and Harry Noonan part of the squad. EGS would like to congratula­te all on their selection.
