IRISH DANCING

Irish Dancing to start on Saturday, September 16, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. Classes are for beginners and is for age three years up. Registered members of An Comhdhail, fully Garda Vetted and insured. POSITIVE AGING

A calendar of events for Positive Aging Week 2017, starting on September 30 to October 15 can be found now on the notice board in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh.

AFTERNOON TEA DANCE

There will be a pre-Christmas tea dance coming up this year, with a date to be confirmed but we will keep you posted, all groups must book in advance with the Brockagh Centre by calling us at 0404 45600. A reminder that new members are always welcome to the Active Retirement Group in the Brockagh Centre, Laragh, come along on a Tuesday morning to the Brockagh Centre from 11 a.m. 12.15 p.m. for some exercise and social gatherings.

WHITTLED AWAY

Join author and Irish Wildlife Trust Campaigns Officer Padraic Fogarty for a talk about his landmark book Whittled Away on Thursday, September 14, 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. This is a free event hosted by Laragh Tidy Towns, all our welcome. The book charts the grim decline of nature in the Irish Landscape, but it also reveals possibilit­ies for the future, showing a path to recovery for nature and wildlife. In particular, Padraic will discuss how we can better manage our uplands a topic relevant to the area.

GLENDALOUG­H TRAIL

The Glendaloug­h Trail race, in aid of ‘Fighting Blindness’, will now take place on Saturday, November 18, with registrati­on and refreshmen­ts at the Brockagh Centre. It will be a fantastic, fun, running experience over a 15.5km route that is scenic, challengin­g and safe. RUN THE RIDGE

On October 14 you will have a chance to run the majestic Derrybawn Ridge while supporting local sports teams Glendaloug­h AC and Laragh GFC. The race begins in the scenic grounds of Laragh GFC before taking runners on a 20km adventure on the local trails and hills. A short- er 8km option is also available. The courses are fully marked, and a mighty spread of cakes and tea will be on offer for the post-race celebratio­ns. For full details and bookings please go to runtheridg­e.ie.

HAUNTED HALLOWEEN

Calling all little ghouls and spooks. Join us for our Horrifying Haunted Halloween House on Saturday, October 28, Jampacked with activities including Ghouling Games, Frightful Feasts, Alarming Art, Petrifying Prizes, Terrifying Treasure Hunt and a Death-Defying Disco, this Haunted House is sure to be the creepiest one around. BASKET-MAKING

This full day, traditiona­l basket-making workshop will teach you basic basketry techniques. Taught in a relaxed learning environmen­t, you will bring home your own completed small round willow basket (a skib). The workshops will take place in the Brockagh Centre from 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. on September 17 and 23, of October 7 and 21. Classes are small with five participan­ts. PILATES

Marie Noonan’s class will be back at the Brockagh on Monday, September 18. Marie is a qualified Pilate’s teacher and has been teaching for the last 17 years and works full time as a movement therapist for rehabilita­tion, health and longevity. MORNING YOGA

Louise’s yoga class will be held every Thursday from 10 to 11.15 a.m. This is a gently paced class where students learn how to align, open and strengthen the body gradually while stabilisin­g the platforms of the feet and ankles, hips and pelvis and shoulder girdle. The class begins with general and targeted warm-up sequences followed by postures (Asanas) and Vinyasa (breath-connected) sequences before final relaxation in Savasana. CHAIR YOGA

Our very popular Chair Yoga class will take place on Thursdays from 11.30 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. Chair Yoga is suitable for almost everyone and helps students find balance and calm in everyday life. The class takes students through centering and breathwork, followed by postures that let the joints move through their range of movement while seated or through use of the chair while standing. WICKLOW MAN

Wicklow Man (David Bury 087 2723962) is on every Tuesday night at the Brockagh Centre at 9 p.m. for a few hours of dancing and socialisin­g.

AA MEETINGS

Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 8.30 p.m. every Monday night.

MOBILE LIBRARY

The mobile library visits Lynhams car park in Laragh every second Thursday from midday to 12.50 p.m. The next visits will take place on September 14 and September 28.

TAI CHI/QIGONG

Tai Chi and QiGong classes are very powerful tools which help to heal physically, mentally, emotionall­y and spirituall­y.
