Kilmac meeting on road and rezone plans
A public meeting was held last Tuesday night in Kilmacanogue about Wicklow County Council’s proposed roadway and rezoning of lands on the lower slopes of Little Sugarloaf.
‘ The meeting was well attended and some very strong concerns and objections were voiced along with some very intelligent and considered alternatives,’ said meeting chairman David Devine.
Cllr Joe Behan said that there was a very large attendance, illustrating the level of concern felt by local people.
Cllr Behan said that he is firmly against the road proposal, saying ‘it is clearly a breach of a previous decision made by the council and is opposed by many local people.’
Mr Devine said that it was discussed at the meeting that the TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland) report for the N11 noted that the council’s proposed Little Sugarloaf roadway was superfluous to the needs and not feasible on the grounds of its environmental impact to the area. People attending the meeting indicated their intention to make submissions on the matter to the council regarding the area development plan, before the deadline last Friday.
Plans were made to form a civic association for Kilmacanogue with a meeting to be called soon.
