Superdraw

Greystones Cancer Support is preparing for its 23rd annual super draw.

The draw takes place at Whale theatre at a gala charity benefit night on November 4, starring Rebecca storm.

Maclean Burke of Fair City fame will also be there.

The launch will take place at Tesco, Greystones on Thursday, September 28 at 10.30 a.m.

The top prize is a €1,000 SuperValu Greystones shopping spree.

There will also be trips away, golf, pieces of art, and much more.

Tickets will be on sale at Greystones Cancer Support, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 1 pm.

Also in shops and supermarke­ts in Greystones, Kilcoole and Newtownmou­ntkennedy. Tickets are usually sold out and will not be available on the night of the draw.

Festival of history

The 29th La Touche Legacy / 4th Festival of History will this year takes place on Friday & Saturday September 29 & 30 in Greystones Golf Club with the theme ‘Creating a New State’.

The exhibition run in conjunctio­n with weekend will be provided by the students and staff of St Brigid’s National School, George added ‘the Committees of the La Touche Legacy & GAHS were delighted that St Brigid’s were taking part in this year’s festival, and very much looked forward to their contributi­on.’

The exhibition and presentati­on will take place at the start of the Seminar on Friday, September 29 at 4 p.m. in the golf club.

Active Retirement

Greystones Active Retirement holds whist every Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. at Kilian House family centre.

Membership payments and bookings for all events takes place at Kilian House on Tuesdays from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.

Children’s storytime

The popular children’s storytime has moved to the slightly later time of 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings at Greystones Library. The session is suitable for babies up to children aged six years.

All are welcome to come along for some super stories as well as the chance to meet other parents and carers. No booking is required.

Aircoach changes

A new Greystones route 702 Air Coach timetable came into effect on January 1.

Coach service from Dublin airport leaves terminal 1 at five minutes past the hour.

Coach service to Dublin Airport leaves Charleslan­d either on the hour or ten past the hour, depending on time of day.

Bray Greystones badminton club welcomes new players every Thursday night at eight o’clock in BIFE Novara Road Bray. Beginners and back to badminton players welcome.

Newcastle Market

The regular Saturday morning market takes place at Newcastle Community Centre.

The market will be on from 10.30 a.m. to 12 midday with fresh vegetables and produce available.

Holy Rosary social

Holy Rosary parish social, hobby and craft afternoon will and take place on the first Sunday of each month. The event will take place at Kilian House Family Centre from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. each month. Refreshmen­ts are available at €1.50. The event is for people aged 18 and older. Dementia Friends

Greystones Dementia Friends is a local group for those caring for someone with dementia.

The group meets every Friday morning in the Burnaby Lounge at 11 a.m. The group would love to welcome anyone caring for those with dementia.

Men’s Shed

Greystones Men’s Shed is open at the first Wicklow Scout Hall on Church Road. Bridge

Coolagad Bridge Club’s charity night in aid of Greystones Cancer Support will take place on Monday, September 25.

The event will take place at Greysotnes Bridge Centre, Victoria Road, at 7.30 p.m.

Admission is €10 to include a free raffle and excellent supper.

Tidy Towns junior

Greystones Tidy Towns is setting up a junior tidy towns committee.

The committee will be establishe­d this September with local secondary and primary schools.

They are looking for one or two people to help as school liaisons.

Holy Rosary choir

Holy Rosary Choir is returning from holidays and needs new members.

The choir sings at 6 p.m. Mass in the Holy Rosary Church on the first and third Saturday of the month.

Soup and sandwiches

Soup and sandwiches will be served at St Patrick’s Parish Centre on Tuesday, September 19, at 12.30 p.m.

The lunch will include wonderful home made food, good company, good cheer and a good welcome.

Christmas fair

Great news, the St. David’s Christmas Fair is back for 2017. Situated on the seafront in Greystones it’s one of Wicklow’s biggest Christmas fairs. The fair will take place the weekend of November 25 and 16, 10am to 5pm. They are now seeking applicants for stalls so if you’d like to participat­e please email stdavidscr­aftfair@gmail.com for an applicatio­n form. Cost for 1-day single stall €45/double €80. 2 day single stall €70/double €120.

Qigong

A six week course in qi gong and Taoist meditation will take place from September 18 to October 23.

The course will take place at Gorse Hill, Windgates, from 7.40 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese health practice that involves movement and breath.

It develops grounding and activates the vital energy routes of the body.

It can bring a sense of calm, self assurance and inner strength.

Taoist meditation­s are also part of the course.

Phelim Drew

Phelim Drew presents ‘Down and Out in London and Parish’ at Whale Theatre on Thursday, September 21, at 7 pm.

Declan Sinott

Declan Sinnott will perform at the Hotspot on friday, September 22, accompanie­d by Vickie Keating.

The venue is above the Beach House at Greystones Harbour Marina.

Declan Sinnott is a founding member of Horslips and Moving Hearts.

He is a world renowned Irish guitarist, producer, songwriter and folk legend.

He has worked as guitarist and producer for Christy Moore for over 30 years. And he guided Mary Black for over 13 years.

Declan enjoys writing and has released his first solo album: I love the noise it makes.

Yoga classes in Newcastle

A new term in yoga and mindfulnes­s classes has started in Newcastle Le Cheile. Back care yoga is on from 7.45 p.m. to 8.45 p.m., €130 for 10 weeks, and Thursday, September1­5, 10.30 a.m. to midday, €170 for 12 weeks. The classes include yoga postures, mindful breathing, relaxation and medication practices.The cost is €16 to drop in for a class.
