NEW Wicklow Manager John Evans will launch the All Ireland Kick Fada 2017 in Bray next weekend.

The former Roscommon and Tipperary manager has accepted an invitation to formally open the 18th annual All Ireland Kick Fada competition in Bray Emmet’s grounds on Old Connaught Avenue on Saturday afternoon next (September 23) at 1pm.

The All Ireland Kick Fada last year saw former Mayo goalkeepr Fintan Ruddy complete back-to-back wins and his third in all.

However, due to club championship, Ruddy will be unable to defend his title this year, meaning that another name will collect the Celtic Cross Saturday afternoon.

Record holder Damien Sheridan (Longford) produced a prodigious kick of 75 metres to win four years ago – a new length which beat the previous record held by Kildare’s Marc Herbert by a full three metres. He is expected to be back in contention this year.

In the women’s section Dublin’s Serena Hannon will also try to create her own piece of history by completing a six-in-a-row.

“We certainly have had kicking of the highest quality in the men’s and women’s sections over the years and I’m looking forward to another day of great competitive fare,” declared Bray Emmet’s Chairman, Liam McGraynor this week.

Bray have lined up a top class field of performers for the occasion which is ideal for family attendance where children can gets autographs from the stars on show after the event is finished.
