Lucy proud of her team

-

THEY may have fallen short at the Rugby Europe U-18 Women’s Sevens Championships but Lucy Mulhall is tipping her Ireland team for a bright future.

Mulhall is the head coach of the side that travelled to Vichy, France over the weekend and they gave an extremely good account of themselves.

On Saturday, the topped Pool A which included a victory over hosts France. A late score proved to be their downfall against Wales on Sunday in the Cup quarter-final. That saw them drop into the plate decider against Canada but another late breach saw the curtain come down on their campaign in disappointing fashion.

Throughout the tournament, Mulhall’s starlets racked up 20 tries on their way to a sixth placed finish – winning four of their six fixtures. It left Mulhall, 23, with plenty to be proud of.

“Looking back on the weekend we started really well and played some really exciting rugby but will be disappointed not to be playing up there with the top four in the semi-finals.

“What is really pleasing for us is that we’ve a very young squad and massive potential within it. These are not only a talented bunch but incredibly hard working and driven girls, so I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them and for Irish Women’s rugby.

“A massive thank you to all of the family members and supporters who travelled to France and cheered on the girls throughout the weekend.”
