Super showing from under-13s on first outing!

-

ARKLOW under-14 girls entered their first tournament last weekend. For most of the girls playing it was their first time playing competitive rugby - though looking at the tacking and running that they displayed you would think they had been playing for years.

The Arklow team played against far more experienced teams from Wicklow, Greystones and Enniscorthy and very held their own in what was excellent exhibition of underage girls’ rugby.

In the end they lost two matches narrowly and drew one. However, this does not illustrate the skill levels and endeavour that the Arklow team exhibited throughout the day – indeed had it not been for some basic defensive errors the results may have different – but this team will definitely benefit from the experience and will only improve.

Great tries from Grainne Flynn, Ava Kavanagh and Emma Keane, plus strong running from Lara Prestage, Maya Coyne, Brogan Doyle and Leah Hunt Cecil combined with and some defensive textbook tackles from Jane Neill, Daisy Tyner and Aine Hendley capped a great afternoon

This Saturday, Arklow RFC will host a similar tournament at 1.30pm in the club where no doubt similar levels of display from all teams will be repeated.

Grainne Flynn, Ava Kavanagh, Emma Keane, Lara Prestage, Maya Coyne, Brogan Doyle, Leah Hunt Cecil, Jane Neill, Daisy Tyner Aine Hendley, Sarah Lawlor.
