JUNIOR CERTIFICAT­E

Congratula­tions to all our students who received their Junior Certificat­e results on Wednesday. We hope you were rewarded for the work you put in over the last three years.

OPEN NIGHT

Coláíste Chraobh Abhann’s Open Night will take place on Thursday, September 21, from 6.30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come meet our staff and students and get a flavour of what makes Coláiste Chraobh Abhann so special.

Take a tour around the school and see the wonderful facilities our school has to offer. Speak with our experience­d teachers about the broad subject choices on offer in our Junior Cert, Transition Year, Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied programme.

Also sample what our extracurri­cular programme has to offer, including the school musical, sport clubs, school choir, drama club, student council and much much more.

CCA SCHOOL MUSICAL

We are delighted to announce that this year’s school musical will be High School Musical. All first, second, TY and fifth year students are invited to attend the auditions that will begin next week. Prepare a song that you will sing as part of the audition. Please speak to Ms Egan for further details. Best of luck to all.

FIRST YEAR INFO NIGHT

Thank you to everyone who attended the first Year informatio­n night that took place on Thursday evening in Coláiste Chraobh Abhann at 7 p.m. Mr Farrell was delighted to meet all the parents and discuss how their child was settling into life in CCA.

The informatio­n night was followed by the Parent Associatio­n AGM. Thank you to all who attended.

DIVERSITY WEEK

CCA Diversity Week will take place from Monday the 18th to Friday the 22nd. The Students Council will be promoting the importance of respect and inclusion in all areas of our lives and teachers will be focusing on areas of diversity within the class room.

STAFF TRAINING DAY

Friday, September 22, is a DES Staff training day for the New Junior Cycle. There will be no classes for students on this day.

TY TRIPS

CAUSEY FARM – Our Transition Year students have set off on an action packed two days’ adventure this Thursday and Friday to Causey Farm in County Meath. They will participat­e in many fun team-building activities, such as raft making, pizza making, bog-swimming, bodhrán playing and ceidhlí dancing. We hope everyone enjoys the trip.

WICKLOW FILM FESTIVAL – The Transition Year students attended the Mermaid Theatre in Bray last Friday to view the screening of the film Machines, a documentar­y film exploring the conditions of the sweatshops of India. This moving film was directed by Rahul Jain and explored the inner workings of a textile mill in Sachin India, where the viewers are confronted with the harsh conditions that the workers must face every day to scrape out an existence.

The screening was then followed by a question and answer discussion with the New York Times writer Caelinn Hogan.

GIRLS FOOTBALL TEAM

Newtown girls are setting up an under-18 girls’ soccer team this year. Any girl that may be interested please contact Alannah Melia in 4JBE for further details.

KENNEDY CUP 2017

Congratula­tions to the CCA students who were part of the Wicklow team who participat­ed in the Kennedy Cup this year. The team reached the quarter finals, being beaten by Waterford 2-0. They came 16th out of all the counties in Ireland. The Coláíste Chraobh Abhann players that represente­d the county were Adam Farrell, Josh Odlum, Dylan Cummins, Samuel Bishop, Stephen Kearns, Andrew Waters and was captained by Adam Farrell.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Students – Don’t forget to sign up for your chosen CCA after school activity. Clubs are now recruiting members. Be it football, gaelic, basketball, yoga classes, gymnastics, drama or music, there will be something happening for you. Please speak to Mr Ryan for further informatio­n on times and days of each activity.

LOOKING FOR ACTORS

CCA Player, the Senior Drama club is now looking for interested actors, production team and set designers for this year’s play. All TY, fifth year and sixth year students are invited to join. Please speak to Mr Ó Súilleabhá­ín or Ms Hennessy if you are interested in being involved in this year’s production.
