Community rallies after break-in at butchers

A brick was thrown through the window of Farrelly’s butchers in Delgany in the early hours of last Thursday morning.

The thieves who broke into the shop took a charity collection box for Wicklow Hospice.

Brothers Anthony and Padraig run the 151-year-old master butchers in the village.

Every good-humoured, the brothers have said they plan to auction off the infamous brick in aid of Wicklow Hospice.

They were disappoint­ed to discover the break-in when arriving to open-up on Thursday. However, they were overwhelme­d with support from the community throughout the day following the unfortunat­e incident. People came in throughout the day to commiserat­e, buy something and offer help.

‘We were really pleased and delighted with the amount of help and assistance offered from everyone,’ they said. Customers and fellow businesses rallied around to support the local business. ‘‘Also a big thanks to Archer Glazing for a very fast and efficient service.’

They rang them at 9 a.m. and were able to reopen by 11 that morning. Gardai arrived shortly after the alarm was raised and the scene was examined. Anyone who saw suspicious activity in Greystones on Thursday morning is asked to call Greystones Garda Station on (01) 6665800.
