Soccer action

Lots of action last weekend to report. The under-eights had a super result against Wicklow Rovers on Sunday. At under-eights, you are not allowed to post results past a certain scoreline as it is all about enjoyment but the Glens were ‘On Fire’ in the scoring department and played some great football.

The under-10s had a superb 4-3 win over Wicklow Rovers in Wicklow on Saturday morning. They all played fantastic and it was great team performance and the scorers were Oisin Short, Seán Prendergast, Kaiter Barretto and for the second week in a row Oran Finnerty popped up with the winner. Every player contributed to the victory and the passing was excellent so well done young Glens.

The under-11s had a tough fixture against Rathnew and lost 6-4 in a good team display.

The under-12s had a great result beating Enniskerry 4-1. Conor O’Donnell got two with Finn Kelly and Daniel Moragahan netting one each. There was some solid defending by Cian Reddan, who got man of the match and there was a great start to new squad player Denis Breetveld, who had a great game in goals.

In the under-14s Group A result, Glencormac beat Wicklow Rovers B 5-3. The goals were scored by Luke Kelly three, Oisín Kelly and Dylan Henry in another great team performance with some super goals. The Glens went 1-0 up half way through the first half and then a few minutes later were 2-0 up only to concede two goals within five minutes before the break but went 3-2 up just before the break. Then in the second half, Glens made it 4-2 up but let Wicklow Rovers back again within a few minutes to make it 4-3 but sealed the win with about 10 minutes to go and move into second place in the group and a top of the table clash against premier division champions Arklow Celtic to come this weekend.

The senior team travelled to the Phoenix Park on Sunday to play Bohemians Supporters Club and came away with a 1-1 draw. The Glens travelled with a weakened squad due to various reasons but the 12 that did travel were absolutely superb and deserve great credit.

Luke O’Callaghan got the goal but the game also saw the return of Ian Devlin after a serious cruciate Knee injury over a year ago. Ian was not expected back to action till November but was thrown in at the deep end on Sunday due to lack of numbers and if everyone in the squad showed that sort of desire and commitment, things would be certainly be a lot better for the Glens.
