The new series of autumn lectures for the Kilmacanog­ue History Society Members will commence on Tuesday, October 3, at 8.30 p.m. in the Glenview Hotel. The guest speaker will be Professor Kevin Whelan, who is director of the Keough Naughton Centre, university of Notre Dame in Dublin.

The title of the lecture is, ‘Dublin in its Global Setting from the World of Wood to Silicon Valley.’ This illustrate­d talk will look at the panoramic history of Dublin from the forests of the ancient clans (The O’Tooles and the O’Byrnes) across the five phases: forest, wood, brick, shadows and silicon.

The lecture will also include a history of Dublin city during the Viking period, when it was known as a ‘Wood Town.’ It articulate­s the massive expansion of the city from 1600 onwards and the importance of Dublin, today, especially in the context of the Irish economy. The society look forward to seeing you all on the night.
