-

Tributes have been paid to the late Dennis Deering of Tinahely who died suddenly while working in Gorey last week.

Mr Deering, (65), a father-of-three, worked as regional development manager with the chocolate company Lindt and Sprungli. He was on a regular visit to the Pettitt’s SuperValu in Gorey, on Thursday afternoon when he died suddenly in his car in the supermarket car park, having suffered a suspected heart attack.

Emergency services were called, but Mr Deering not be revived.

‘I called a doctor and he was here within three or four minutes,’ said Aidan Doyle, manager of Pettitt’s SuperValu Gorey.

‘All the emergency services were here very quickly, but there was nothing they could do,’ he said. ‘We would like to offer our condolences to his family. He had a partner and three children. This must have come as a great shock to them.’

Mr Deering moved to Tinahely from Stanway Road in Crumlin. During the 1990s in particular, he was heavily involved in Shamrock Rovers FC.

In a tribute posted to its Facebook page, the club expressed its deepest sympathy to Mr Deering’s family.

‘Dennis served on the back room team during the Pat Byrne/Mick Byrne managerial era. Ar dheis Dé go raibh an anam,’ the statement read.

A friend and colleague in an online tribute said that ‘ his locker room banter, wisdom, charisma and endless unselfishness to help others on a daily basis will be sadly missed.’

‘RIP Dennis and condolences to his lovely partner Susan and his three beautiful daughters,’ he added.

Denis Deering was the loving partner of Susan and father of Amanda, Natasha and Milissa and devoted grandad to Kellie, Cian, Luke, Leo, Evan and Isabel. He is also sadly missed by his sisters Veronica and Anita, brother Martin, extended family and friends.
