House prices rise ten per cent in year

HOUSE prices have increased by 10 per cent in Wicklow according to the latest House Price Report from Daft.ie.

The report states that, over the last year, house prices have risen by more than €50 on average every day and the national average list price is now almost €241,000 – 8.9 per cent higher than a year ago.

In Wicklow, house prices in the third quarter of 2017 (from June to September) are 10 per cent higher than last year, compared to a small rise of four per cent in 2016.

The average price for a house in Wicklow is now €316,000, which is 55 per cent above its lowest point back in late 2013.

Prices have eased back in nine counties in Leinster, but Wicklow (and Longford) saw a price increase.

Average asking prices in the Garden County are €119,000 for a one-bedroom apartment; €171,000 for a two-bedroom terraced home; €245,000 for a three-bedroom semi-detached home; €461,000 for a four-bedroom bungalow; and €518,000 for a five-bedroom detached house.

The number of properties available to buy on the market continues to fall, albeit at the slowest rate in over five years.

Author of the report Ronan Lyons said: ‘With a shortage in supply, largely due to the lack of new homes being built, there is very little to suggest that house prices will fall in the months and years ahead.’
