Honor Heffernan on song in Wicklow

HONOR HEFFERNAN and Trevor Knight will bring their talents to the Wicklow stage twice in the coming months.

Singer and actress Heffernan and composer/ keyboard player Knight will present their new cabaret/speakeasy-style show ‘ The Whistling Girl’ at the Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely at 8.30 p.m. on Friday, October 13. Tickets, which are available from the Courthouse, cost €16 (€14 concession).

Knight has transforme­d the poems of Dorothy Parker into songs, using her witty, droll and sometimes heart rending lyrics which are uniquely interprete­d by Heffernan. They will be backed up by their talented band includes Garvan Gallagher on bass, Tom Jamieson on drums, Ed Deane on electric guitar, Ciaran Wilde on saxophone and Bill Blackmore on horns.

On Saturday, December 9, the group will hit the stage at the Hot Spot Music Club in Greystones to present an exciting evening of music from ‘ The Whistling Girl’ interspers­ed with songs by writers such as Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Brecht and Weill , Diamanda Gallas and Peter Green.

Doors will open at 8 p.m. and tickets cost from €13 to €15. For tickets or more informatio­n go to thehotspot.ie. THE BRAY Arts Show takes place in the Martello Hotel, Bray, on Monday, October 2 at 8 p.m. Admission is €5 or €4 concession. There will be a presentati­on by Doug Ross, artist at Numinous. Doug launched a collaborat­ion with actress Ciara Julia Ryan last month in the In-Spire Gallery in Gardiner Street.

As I Went Down To The River Styx is a work that draws on both Ciara’s theatrical training and Doug’s visual arts practice. Doug will present a video with the musical score written by Paul Mc Cormack.

Novelist Mary Rose Callaghan will read some of her work.

She was born in Ireland and emigrated to the United States in 1975. She has written nine novels, including Billy, Come Home (2007) and A Bit of a Scandal (2009). She is also a playwright and biographer, and an award-winning short story writer. Her memoir, The Deep End, was published this year by the University of Delaware Press.

Mood Swings will close the evening with their close harmony singing. Most recently, the trio have played a private garden party, the oyster festival in Dalkey, and gigs for Jacks Club. They sing classic popular tunes from 1950s to 2000s.
