HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOLS
Coláiste Chraobh Abhann will be awarded a HPS (Health Promotion Schools) Flag on October 4 This is a joint initiative by the HSE and the Department of Education to promote ‘Health and Well Being’in our school community.
This flag recognises the hard work of a 14-person committee, made up of students, parents and teachers led by Ms Stephanie Egan. The committee worked on this project over a two-year period, striving to promote a positive mental health awareness in both our school lives and our home lives. Congratulations to all involved.
HOSPICE COFFEE MORNING
On September 12 the Coláiste Chraobh Abhann Transition Year students organised a coffee morning to raise funds for the Irish Hospice of Ireland. The coffee morning was sponsored by Bewley’s and the funds raised will help support specially trained Palliative Nurses to visit people in their homes, provide high quality care on In-patient Units, and refurbish facilities as well as buying crucial equipment.
Parents and grandparents of first and second Year students, along with staff and students were invited to attend the coffee morning. €460 was raised for this very worthy cause. Well done to all involved.
SCHOOL BANK
CCA is continuing its partnership with bank of Ireland and planning the year ahead with the focus on many initiatives including TY Academy, Junk Kouture and the school bank.
We were delighted to be joined by Peter Cooney (student liaison officer) and Glenda Wilson (Manger BOI Greystones) for the school bank interviews. They selected a strong team of transition years under the leadership and direction of school bank manager Maggie May Ryan.
Other members of the school bank team include Kellianne Coughlan, Kian Marah, Odhrán Wall, Rebecca Molloy, Megan Longmore and Michaela Smith McGarry. They will undergo their training this week with the school bank visiting classrooms and assemblies to deliver a financial education programme to other students.
ENTERPRISE AMBASSADORS
Well Done to Rebecca Hayden, Rachel Kinsella, Áine Molloy and Luke Byrne, who were guests at the recent Greystones 2020 project pitch as part of the Irelands most enterprising town initiative. Our entrepreneurs were chosen to meet the judges and explain their successful businesses in the Whale Theatre Greystones last week. It was a great honour for the school to have our young ambassadors chosen for such an event.
EUROPEAN LANGUAGE WEEK
European Language Week was celebrated from Monday to Friday, September 25 to 29 in CCA, with students encouraged to chat and practise their chosen European language with staff and friends. Led by the Spanish and French departments, there were many activities to enjoy, including face painting, food tasting, music, presentations and art work.
The week helped to promote a fun and relaxed atmosphere in which we all could all use our European language of choice outside of the classroom. Many thanks to our visiting students from Spain and Germany, who were also heavily involved in this very enjoyable week.
10K SPONSERED WALK
On Wednesday, October 4, Coláiste Chraobh Abhann will celebrate their annual 10k sponsored walk to raise funds for the school. The route will commence from the school, down Sea Road, then along the coast to Greystones, before returning to the school via Kilcoole village. Senior students will also participate in sports events throughout the day. The event is kindly organised by the parents’ council and refreshments will be provided following the walk. We hope everyone will have an enjoyable and dry day.
