A Mass of Thanksgivi­ng with Renewal of Vows: Were you Married In 1992,1977,1967,1957 or 1947? You are invited to join the Parish Community of Holy Redeemer Bray at a Mass of Thanksgivi­ng on Sunday, October 15, at midday as we celebrate with those who are marking Silver, Ruby, Golden, Diamond and Platinum Wedding Anniversar­ies. Refreshmen­ts will be offered afterwards in the Little Flower Hall.

Blessing of the Animals: The blessing of Animals takes place this Sunday on the steps of the Presbytery at Holy Redeemer. Fr Hilary will begin the service at 3 p.m. And we welcome all creatures great and small, furred, finned and feathered to join us in a celebratio­n of the life of St Francis of Assisi and our animal companions.

HomeLink: The church gate collection this Sunday is in aid of HomeLink. HomeLink are a Bray based charity who support older people with daily/weekly or monthly telephone calls, small maintenanc­e jobs, the installati­on of security features, such as alarm pendants and regular social events. Cake Sale and Raffle: The recent weekend Cake Sale amounted to €530. The raffle amounted to €135. Thank you for your support.

Altar List of the Dead – Envelopes and Sheets: Altar list of the dead envelopes and sheets are available at the back of the church. All, whose names are listed will be remembered at Masses on the feast of All Saints, the feast of All Souls, and at the 9.30 a.m. Mass on the First Monday of each month throughout the year. On Tuesday, November 14, at 7.30 p.m. we will remember all of our parishione­rs who have died during the past year.

OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE

Parish dinner dance: Takes place in Bray Golf Club on Friday, October 20, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets €25 are available from Villa Pacis or after 10.30 a.m. Mass on Sundays.

Welcome to Eucharisti­c Adoration: We invite you to commit to one hour per week. If you currently attend but are not signed up, we would encourage you to become part of the official rota as we need to ensure that each hour is covered. Signing up is easy. There are cards and informatio­n at the special display at the back of the church. Please fill in one of the cards and leave it in the box provided.

A Special Thank You: We would like to thank all those who sponsored prizes, baked and supported the cake sale last Sunday week in aid of Bray senior citizens Christmas party. Special thanks goes to Ciaran Magennety, who does sterling work in organising this annual event. A total of €1,021.50 was raised.

QOP YOUTH CLUB

Fifty members and friends of the Queen of Peace Adventure Youth Club enjoyed the annual end of season barbecue, plus land and water sports on Saturday. Sports were organised by Paul, Stephen, and Martina. Fergal, Kathleen, Mike, and Albert looked after the refreshmen­ts. The weather was perfect during the event.

DIVING CLUB

Bray Divers Sub-Aqua Club is organising free introducti­on courses in the safe use of snorkellin­g equipment. It will include theory and pool training sessions. All the equipment will be supplied by the club. It is hoped to run six similar courses during the winter. To enrol call Albert at 087 6756439.

LORETO 1987 REUNION

The 30-year reunion of the Loreto class of ‘87 will take place on Saturday, October 14, upstairs in the Harbour Bar at 8 p.m. with cocktails on arrival. You can contact us through Facebook where we have an event page set up.

Agnes Kelly was born in Carlow 1939, last contact during 1970s, she is believed to have run a restaurant in Bray. Her father was Denis Kelly. Her married name is unknown. Bray Lions Club has begun its search for a Young Ambassador, who will represent the club in the Lions European Young Ambassador programme, which rewards young people (aged under-19 on June 30, 2018, who are making a contributi­on to their local community through voluntary work, sporting activity or good citizenshi­p. Vandra Costello will be the guest speaker for the Thursday, October 19, meeting of the Bray Cualann Historical Society, the local history society for Bray and North Wicklow, which takes place at 8 p.m. in the Royal Hotel, Bray at which she will present her lecture ‘Irish Demesne Landscapes 1660-1740.’ All welcome – members free – admission €5.

ART EXHIBITION

Ray Cranley is a very talented individual – as an artist, one can see of his excellent paintings of Bray in the Town Hall Bookshop on the Florence Road, where they can be purchased. As a composer, musician and performer, one has hear some of his famous compositio­ns, including ‘Crossing Bray Bridge’, composed in Manchester in 1935 and not performed in public till last year. This classic song is one of five of his compositio­ns featured on the on his CD ‘Crossing Bray Bridge’ featuring a 1960s CIE double deck bus crossing Bray Bridge, which is available locally or directly from Ray himself.
