Services of Worship on Sunday, October 8 – The 17th Sunday after Trinity: 8.30 a.m. – Holy Communion; 11 a.m. – Family Harvest Festival with Harvest Readings followed afterwards with coffee and the sale of Harvest Gifts in the Erck Hall; 7 p.m. – Holy Communion, Lector Heather Hewatt.

Alpha/In-Between Book Club: The Book Club will meet on Tuesday, October 31, at 8 p.m. The book for the October meeting was selected at last Tuesday week’s September meeting and has been posted on ‘WhatsApp’.

ST ANNE’S PARISH

Resource Centre Hours: St Anne’s Resource Centre is open 9 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and on Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Those requiring Baptism/Confirmati­on certificat­es or applicatio­n forms for baptism can obtain them during the above hours. Please note that the parish office is the only place where certificat­es and applicatio­n forms can be processed.

Mass Times: Mass is celebrated in St Anne’s Church at 10 a.m. And 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday (except July, August and September). Weekend Mass times are Saturday 6.30 p.m. Vigil Mass and on Sunday at 8 a.m., 10.30 a.m. (Family Mass), midday, and 6 p.m. Confession­s are heard on Saturdays after the 10 a.m. Mass, between 12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m., and after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. Mass is now broadcast online and can be viewed by logging onto the parish website: stannespar­ishshankil­l.com and then clicking onto video link.

Evening Mass: The celebratio­n of the 7.30 p.m. Monday to Friday Evening Mass resumed last Monday.

Baptism Times: Baptisms take place in St Anne’s Church at 1 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. A month’s notice is required. Please contact the St Anne’s parish office located in St Anne’s Resource Centre to make your arrangemen­ts. Please note that when visiting the parish office to arrange a baptism, the child’s birth certificat­e should be brought as it necessary to photocopy it for the parish records but it will be returned immediatel­y.

Pre-Baptism Meetings: Pre-Baptism Meetings are held on the last Thursday of every month for parents presenting their children for baptism the following month.

Room Hire – St Anne’s Resource Centre: At present we have availabili­ty in the centre for room hire. If you are interested in running your class or course please contact Melissa Tobin at 01 2822777 for further informatio­n. Facilities include Free car park, tea or coffee, Use of whiteboard and projector, Flipchart Stands, three rooms available with capacity for 80 people, 25 people, or 15 people.

Thank You: The members of the Shankill Conference of the St Vincent de Paul Society wish to thank all those who contribute­d to their recent September monthly. The total amount raised was €2,544.

The Rosary: October is the month of the Rosary. We will pray for all children and families in our parish. Please join us at 2.45 p.m. in the church every Monday to Friday during October to say the rosary.

Training/Refresher Course: For Ministers of the Word and Extraordin­ary Ministers of Holy Communion will take place tonight (Wednesday) at 8 p.m. in the church.

Enrolment Mass: The Enrolment Mass for First Holy Communion will take place this Sunday – 10.30 a.m. for Scoil Mhuire and midday for Rathmichae­l. Last Sunday morning the Enrolment Mass for St Anne’s took place at 10.30 a.m. for Ms Dawson’s class and midday for Ms Byrne’s class.

First Friday: This Friday is the First Friday and the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel will be open all day. Priests will be available on this day to visit the housebound and sick in the parish. Please contact the parish office if someone you know would like a priest to visit them.

Holy Hour: Please join us for Holy Hour which will take place in the church this Sunday immediatel­y following the 6 p.m. evening Mass to celebrate 10 years since the first opening of the Blessed Sacrament Adoration Chapel.

Queen of the May Prayer Group: Will return on the First Tuesday of each month, starting this coming Tuesday at 8 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Please join us for the Rosary, Bible Readings, Intercessi­ons, Praise and worship.

Male Voice Choir: Rehearsals for our Parish Male Voice Choir take place every Thursday at 11 a.m. There will be tea or coffee available in St Anne’s Resource Centre from 10.30 a.m.

Christmas Fair 2017 Meeting: The Parish Christmas Fair will take place on Sunday, Decem- ber 3, A planning meeting took place in St Anne’s Resource Centre last Monday night at 8 p.m. This is our main fundraiser to provide for the maintenanc­e of our church. This year, we are appealing to any members of our congregati­on who may feel they can help with sponsorshi­p of the prize money. If you can help, please speak to Fr John, Martin Walsh or Pat Maguire.

Altar Servers: If your child would like to become an Altar Server and has not received the Registrati­on Form for Altar Servers, please contact the parish office.

Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The UAC hold Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 22nd of each month. This is a worldwide initiative by the Pallottine Family to pray for vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life. Youth 2000: Youth 2000 meetings have resumed at 8 p.m. on Thursday nights in St Anne’s Church. We invite all 16- to 35-year-olds, to join Youth 2000 in St Anne’s Church, Shankill, every Thursday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. to gather for a time of adoration, prayer, music, reflection and fellowship, followed by a cup of tea and social from 9 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

October Magnificat Prayer Book: October copies of the Magnificat Prayer Book are now available in the parish office for €6. It contains the readings and prayers for Mass for each day. It also contains meditation­s, lives of the Saints, and prayers for Morning and Evening based on the Liturgy of the Hours. Please let us know in the parish office if you would like us to reserve a copy each month for you.

TIDY TOWNS

Help Shankill Tidy Towns keep the village looking well. We need volunteers to water plants on a rota once a fortnight. We also need people to do litter picking in their own area. BOOK SALE

This Saturday the October First Saturday Book Sale, which supports the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n and Meals on Wheels, will take place between 10 a.m. And 1 p.m. in the Shankill Old Folks Associatio­n Day Centre, so make a point of calling into the book sale on Saturday morning and avail of the opportunit­y to pick up some excellent reading material for the autumn. Donations of books, which must be in a good and clean condition, other than school/text books, will be accepted on the day. Photograph­s and memorial cards found in donated books can be collected at the book sale. Supporting the First Saturday Book Sale supports the Shankill Community.

SHANKILL LIBRARY

Opening hours for Shankill Library are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. And from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mon- days and Wednesdays and on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. The library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. The library will be closed this Friday but open on Saturday. HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Finbar Dwyer will open the autumn programme of the Rathmichae­l Historical Society, the local history society for Shankill, Ballybrack, and the surroundin­g area, at 8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) on in Rathmichae­l School, Stonebridg­e Road, Shankill, with his lecture on ‘The Black Death in the Dublin Region’. All welcome to attend – admission €4.

ICA GUILD

The guild meets on the second Monday of the month at 3.30 p.m. in St Anne’s Resource Centre. Craft Morning takes place in St Anne’s Resource Centre on Tuesday mornings from 10.30 a.m. And 12.30 p.m. Culture outings are held at different times throughout the year. GAA CLUB NEWS

Our juvenile Academy is for both boys and girls from four to six years of age is in action every Saturday morning from10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Shanganagh Castle. The cost is only €2 per child and there is no annual subscripti­on. Qualified coaches are always in attendance and all equipment is supplied free of charge. So why not come along any Saturday morning and give the Academy a try.

All the action recently was centred last Saturday week as the club prepared for our visit to Croke Park. The under-seven Hurling and under-eight camogie teams were in Bray Emmets for a blitz and the under-nine Hurling team travelled to Liffey Gaels also for a blitz. Back home in Shanganagh Castle the under-10 hurlers had a brilliant game against St Jude’s.

Congratula­tions to our friend Molly Lamb and the Dublin Ladies Senior Football Team on winning the all-Ireland Football Final. Two bus loads on 120 players, parents and friends attended the match and cheered on the team to the very end. It was a brilliant day out for Shankill and the Dubs, Atha Cliath agus Seanchill Abu.
