Improved Ballydonarea Loop Walk opened
THERE was a large turnout in Kilcoole last weekend for the launch of the improved Ballydonarea Loop Walk.
Walkers met at the beach car park last Saturday afternoon. Representatives of ‘Kilcoole Walkways’ brought them along the walk and explained some of the interesting heritage of the area.
The enjoyable event ended with some refreshments at Ballydonarea House, courtesy of Ralph and Caroline Tindal.
The day included a short presentation on the heritage and history of the walk.
Kilcoole Walkways is a new group formed over the winter to improve and maintain local paths. The Ballydonarea Loop Walk is an off-road walk running from Lott Lane to the sea.
Kilcoole Walkways volunteers have put a huge effort into upgrading the path which takes about 45 minutes, including a return walk to Kilcoole via the Sea Road. It includes magnificent views of the entire coastal plain from Wicklow Head in the south, to Bray Head in the north.
Funding for the path improvements was provided by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
The works to the walk included new fencing, turnstiles and signage.
