Bonfire materials being collected

-

AS bonfire season approaches, young residents of some estates have already started gathering materials.

Cllr Joe Behan raised the issue last week at Bray Muncipal District.

He said that an effective method to ensure local householders don’t contribute to the problem is to write to them with a warning. He said that if they are caught handing out refuse such as old furniture, that’s breaking the law and subject to being fined.

‘Many householders may not be aware that they are breaking the law if they give out stuff for bonfires,’ said Cllr Behan. ‘ The buildup has already started and it needs to be dealt with,’ said Cllr Behan. ‘We say every year we’re not going to do it but inevitably the council ends up having to sort it out.’
