Huge shock at death of loving dad Bruce (45)

- By SARA GAHAN

THE people of Arklow were left shocked and heartbroken at the news of the sudden passing of loveable character Bruce Rumbold on Sunday.

Father to Matthew and husband to Harriet, 45-yearold Bruce passed away suddenly from natural causes at home in Woodbrook.

When news broke of Bruce’s passing, many friends took to social media to pay their respects to a big character and a gentleman, who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Both Arklow Computer Solutions and Gorey Computer Solutions, where Bruce worked, paid tribute to him on their Facebook pages, saying: ‘I just hope you knew how much I appreciated you and how proud I am of what you did to this place. Who’d have known you’d have turned it into something so big, after starting in the little workshop at the back of the Arklow store. I’ll miss you, Boss!’

Bruce met his wife Harriet (nee Murphy), who is originally from Arklow, in London. They decided to move back to Arklow town around 2001 and soon welcomed their baby boy Matthew, who is now 14 years old.

Bruce, who is a native of Kent in England, worked in the late bar ‘ The Tunnel’ before taking a position in Sally O’Brien’s, where he worked for many years.

In July 2015, he got a new job at Arklow Computer Solutions but was soon promoted to a managerial position in the sister store, Gorey Computer Solutions.

He was a big music enthusiast and enjoyed listening to heavy metal, including Iron Maiden.

Bruce will be sadly missed by wife Harriet, son Matthew, father Jeff and his partner Jan, sister Nicola, fatherin-law Harry, sisters-in-law Lily, Ann-Marie and Bridget, brothers-in-law Wayne and Andy, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, many friends and neighbours.

Bruce’s funeral Mass will take place this morning ( Wednesday, October 11) at 10 a.m. in St Mary and Peter’s Church, Arklow, followed by burial at St Gabriel’s Cemetery, Arklow.
