Tourism funding turned down

-

PROJECTS approved for the tourism fund in the Bray District were not approved by a committee at county council level.

Members proposed projects last year which were the lighting of the war memorial on Quinsboro Road, and the 1916 garden car park at Kilmacanogue.

They said that those two were the only two which were tourism focussed.

Cllr Christopher Fox said that he had contacted officials regarding the matter. ‘ They felt that the memorial and the 1916 garden car park in Kilmacanogue did come under the remit of tourism. The other items did not,’ said Cllr Fox.

‘He said that he was not a member of that SPC.’

Cllr Brendan Thornhill is a member but was not present at the meeting.

Cllr Fox proposed that they put forward those two projects for the funding.

‘We’ll hand back any money we don’t spend,’ he said.

The committee will be meeting again. ‘ That’s very disappointing for the groups involved,’ said Cllr Steven Matthews.
