A SEARCH FOR ANSWERS IN A WICKLOW PILE

- ADELE O’NEILL’S

FROM the bestselling author of The Ballroom Café and The Judge’s Wife, Ann O’Loughlin captures our imagination once again with her beautifully crafted, descriptive tale of Connie Carter and the tragedy that brings her from her beautiful and much loved home in New York to the run-down Ludlow Hall that her husband bought without her knowing in County Wicklow.

What connection had her husband to Ludlow Hall and why didn’t he tell her about it before his death?

Searching for answers and hoping to find some redemption, Connie Carter finds herself in the derelict mansion in County Wicklow in the depth of her grief. At first with a reluctance to engage with the locals, Connie avoids their chatter and sidesteps their interest but soon Connie’s curiosity gets the better of her and when she opens up Ludlow Hall to the Ludlow Ladies’ Society and the quilt they are making for Michelle Obama’s visit, she soon discovers that she is not the only one struggling with pain.

When stitching a quilt together the secrets and buried pasts of Eve and Hetty from the ladies’ society begin to unravel and Connie, Eve and Hetty form an unbreakable bond and strong friendship that will have you reaching out to all your own circle of friends. The Ludlow Ladies’ Society is a story of friendship, resilience and compassion, and how women support each other through the most difficult times.

This story is heart breaking and heart-warming all at once with hints of humour delivered in true Irish style by Kathryn’s character. All the characters have the kind of depth and substance that will make you feel as though you have known them all your life and will have you rooting for redemption for each and every one of them.

In the same way that the ladies stitched together every meaningful piece of fabric for the quilt, Ann O’Loughlin weaves together all the story threads together in an emotional rollercoaster. If you enjoy Maeve Binchy, Carmel Harrington and Marian Keyes you will love The Ludlow Ladies’ Society.
