ST KEVIN’S ON FIRE

- LEINSTER HURLING QUALIFIER

ST KEVIN’S CC DUNLAVIN COLÁISTE CHILL MHANTÁIN 8-11 7-06

THE final of the Wicklow qualifier for the South Leinster Junior hurling ‘D’ championship produced a high scoring game in Ballinakill on Thursday.

The first half was somewhat unbalanced with the Dunlavin school in command. At half time they had led by 6-4 to 1-1 and looked set for a comfortable win.

Chill Mhantain improved considerably in the second half and the direct ball into full forward Tom O’Brien began paying dividends. His contribution of four goals in quick succession in the middle of the half reduced the margin to four points and brought the game alive.

St Kevin’s, who had looked so impressive in the first half, now had to dig deep and regained the momentum to earn a fully deserved victory.

The winners were the better balanced side with Tom Moran in defence, Jack Grace and Alan Miley in midfield as well as Rory Martin, Brian Keogh and Tadhg Barrett in attack excelling. Coláiste Chill Mhantáin’s hero was Tom O’Brien who hit the net on seven occasions while others to catch the eye included T J Kehoe, Fionn Luddy, Charlie Cruise, Christy Moorhouse and Cian O’Neill.
