WICKLOW ROVERS
The senior men recorded an excellent 2-1 away win over Kingscourt Harps in the second round of the Leinster Junior cup. They made the long journey home from Cavan much easier with this fantastic victory.
Luke Byrne gave the lads a 1-0 half-time lead, the home side levelled matters early in the second period but parity was short lived when Mark O’Sullivan restored the Rovers lead, a lead they never surrendered.
It was a great result for the lads and now sees them progress to the third round where they’ll be hoping for a home draw. Well done to Greg, Denis, Dido and the lads.
Our under-17As drew 2-2 with Ashford Rovers, this was a tight encounter that could have went either way but a draw was probably a fair result, Luke Whyte and Conor Byrne hit the back of the net for the lads.
The under-17Bs went down 2-0 away to Arklow Utd, a goal in each half was enough to see the Arklow side take all three points.
Saturday’s junior action saw four of our sides in National cup action, first up was the 12As and they easily brushed aside a Portlaoise B team winning comfortably to set up a third round tie away to Edenderry Town A or Sallins Celtic B.
Highlights of the game were first ever goals for the club from Harri Armstrong and he did it in style with his first hat-trick.
Another player to nab an excellent hat-trick was goalkeeper Adam Doyle who came outfield to blast home three goals.
The 13As never reached their normal high standards as they made their exit from the National cup when they went down 3-2 away to Caragh Celtic, the lads didn’t get going in this game but to their credit they battled through out, Oscar Malcolmson netted both goals for the lads.
Our 15As also went out when they lost 3-1 away to Kildare Town, this was always going to be a tough place to get a result and so it proved.
The lads gave it their all and more than matched their opponents through out, Dylan Cummins scored for Rovers to claim his second of the season.
The 16s recorded an excellent 5-3 win away to Westmeath side Kilbeggan to set up a third round clash away to Allenwood Celtic or Emo Celtic in round three.
The lads put in a five-star performance and safely booked their passage into the third round with an impressive display.
Nathan Sullivan and Paul Marah both scored two with Chris Mabuza nabbing his first of the season to complete the five goal haul.
In local action the 12Cs gained their first win of the season with a 14-2 win over Sporting Greystones, a double hat-trick from Cian Doyle was the highlight of the game.
Cian Byrne also notched three goals with Sammy Doyle, Finn Davies, Darragh Carey, Ben Doyle and Shea Bolt all adding one each.
Sunday’s action saw the under-14 girls produce a thrilling 4-4 draw with Mount Merrion, this was a game full of attacking football, a game which could have ended 7-7 or even 8-8.
Molly Sweeney hit a hat-trick with Justine Cronin nabbing her first of the season in a thrill a minute match.
Special mention to Abi Smith in the Rovers goal, who produced some excellent saves.
The under-15Bs were unlucky to go down 2-1 to Arklow Celtic at Whitegates.
In a close encounter if the lads had the rub of the green they would have gained their first points of the season.
Keelan Vickers scored his first of the season for the lads and on the evidence of this performance that elusive first win is not too far away.
The club’s Last Man Standing competition is back and it starts this coming weekend, October 14.

The club have arranged another night for registration of club membership, it will take place this Friday, October 13, in the clubhouse at Whitegates from 7.30pm to 9pm. Members are encouraged to attend.

Underage teams - The SJ.B Academy under-17s are away to Sligo Rovers on Saturday in the Shield competition. Kick off at the Showgrounds is 2pm. The SJ.B Academy under-15s beat Galway United 3-2 last Saturday.
AVONMORE FC
Avonmore under-8s v Ashford under-8s - Our under-8s took on Ashford in Tullylusk where they held their own and had lots of fun with a great turnout of 16 players and also a warm welcome all our new players to our team.
Avonmore under-16s v Coolboy under-16s - Our under-16s kept up their good run with a great victory over Coolboy.
It was a very close game for the first 40 minutes with both teams having very little chances.
We brought on Tommy Hernandez at half-time and this proved to be the turning point.
We got a free kick just outside the box Cian Ward hit the ball it went over the bar but the referee had noticed an off the ball incident which resulted in a penalty, this came after the 44th minute.
Kelan Busher stepped up and buried it to the top of the net. We were pushing for another goal to secure victory but Coolboy hit us on the break and equalised in the 74th minute.
With time running out we hit a long ball from the backline and Tommy chased it down and just about keep it in play but as he went to turn he was up ended in the box. The referee blew his whistle and gave us a penalty.
Once again Kelan steeped up and scored. This was in the 80th minute Coolboy tipped off and put us under pressure but we held on for another three points with a 2-1 victory. Well done to all. Training Thursday from 7-8pm.
SFAI NATIONAL CUP - Hard luck to our under-12s B team who were defeated in the second round of the sfai cup yesterday, and well done to our under-12/13 squad who had a great win over athy yesterday in Ballygannon, best of luck in the next round lads.
NEWTOWN JUNIORS
Our under-8s hosted a very young but spirited Wicklow Rovers Blue team and both teams put on an enjoyable hours of football.
On the day among the players who starred for the under-8s were Erik Lis, Kayla Hamilton, Aaron Nolan and Alex Mackey.
Our under-9s travelled to Wolfe Tone and played out a very close contest.
Best for the under-9s were Ryan McDonald, Albie Chance and John Turley.
The under-10s travelled to Rathnew where for the second week running they came up against another outstanding goalkeeper.
In saying that the Newtown team had to produce finishes of the highest quality and that they did with Frank Lang, William Valentine, Max Roche, Pat Carey and Aidan Heffernan all hitting the net.
On the day the best for Newtown were Sebastian Anton, Darren Fisher and Ryan Collins.
The under-11s edged out Wicklow Town at home in a very close but entertaining game.
Matthew Doyle (2), Dylan Dunleavy scored the goals while Brooklyn Doyle, Naoise Lowe, Halim Topol and Rose Kelly-Tynan were among the best players on the day.
Our under-14s travelled to the Meath/Westmeath border to take on Kinnegad Youths in the National Cup and despite a valiant effort they went down to defeat. Martin Kelly scored the Newtown goal and despite been down a few players through injury the team gave it their all.

One of our ever-popular fundraisers the “Last Man Standing” competition will start back on the weekend of Saturday 21st - Monday, October 16.
The cost to play is €10 per player and the club pays out 50 per cent of all monies we take in.
All monies collected go to the continued development of the youngsters in the club.
Please support lets get as many players into the competition as possible.
The WDSL in conjunction with all the clubs in the league are running a fundraiser “The Kube” on Saturday, November 18, in the Parkview Hotel in Newtown.
It is hoped every club will enter at least one participant to take on the Kube. The entry fee is €300 per participant, which each club must pay themselves or can get sponsored.
Sponsored cards are available at present through any committee member. As yet the club haven’t decided who will take on the Kube on behalf of the club but we have a couple of interested parties.
Anything over €300 raised on the sponsor cards goes to the club and our participant/s stands to win up to €1,500 for the club depending on how she or he does. We had intended to have one player but it looks like we may be able to put forward two contestants (all will be revealed).

As the evenings are closing in fast in the coming weeks all of our teams will be moving into the Indoor Hall in due course.

ARKLOW TOWN FC
Well done to our Leinster first team, who on Thursday night travelled to the Iveagh Grounds in Crumlin to play St. James Gate and walked out 2-1 winners. Goalscorers for Town tonight were Darren Dempsey and Peter Sherwood.
Our LSL second team suffered a narrow loss at home on Saturday afternoon.
The team played with a great resilience against a strong Col- linstown team who stand top of their Division, having won all seven games out of the seven they have played so far in this campaign.
The game remained scoreless for much of the game - with Arklow Town proudly adding their name first on the scoresheet through a goal from Ross Hanley.
Collinstown FC replied some time later and, in the closing minutes of the game, found the back of our net again, leaving the game 2-1 to our visitors at the final whistle.
Well done the team on the day. A great game which bore witness to the character and determination our second team displayed in the face of a tough challenge.
Our under-8 WDSL team experienced their first home game on our wonderful Astro facility over the weekend in Bridgewater Centre Park.
Yet again there was some amazing goals scored, stunning saves and tremendous tackles. The boys continue to show a lot of determination and their efforts in training paid off.
Arklow Town’s U9 Black team made the short trip to local rivals Arklow United for a 10am kickoff at Ferndale on Sunday morning. The great support for both sides were entertained by some super football.
A strong Arklow United side at home played some great football and this was countered by some great play from the Town. Overall a good morning of football.

Congratulations to our U11 A1 DDSL side who progressed to Round 3 of the U12 SFAI Cup with a 2-1 home win against Cabinteely. Goalscorers for the Town on the day in an excellent all round team performance were Paul Moore and Sean O Neill.
Our Little Astros Club runs every Saturday morning from 10am until 11am.
It provides an introduction to football in a fun manner in a safe and secure environment and is run by fully qualified coaches.
This very popular club caters for boys and girls aged between four and seven years old and is totally free of charge.
