History lecture

It has been announced that Dr Patrick Wallace will deliver the next autumn lecture for the Kilmacanog­ue History Society. Titled ‘The History of the National Museum’, it will take place at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, in the Glenview Hotel.

In 1974, at the age of 25, Dr Wallace was given responsibi­lity for the Wood Quay excavation­s. He was appointed Director of the National Museum of Ireland in 1988, a post which he held till his retirement in 2012. Everyone is welcome and the society look forward to seeing you all on the night.

On a separate note, The Enniskerry History Society wish to remind us that their next lecture is scheduled for 8.30 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, at the Powerscour­t Arms Hotel. Tommy O’Rourke will speak on ‘The Hedge Schools of Wicklow’.
