NEWTOWN

The Seniors had a good win finishing on a good margin in a challenge game against St Anne’s at home last Friday. Let’s hope they continue this on into Fridays Keating Trophy game against Annacurra in Rathnew, throw-in scheduled for 8pm but please check fixtures.

Newtown’s juvenile presentation will be taking place when all our teams have finished out their season we have no date yet as the under-13s are still playing, but it will be around mid-November.

Well done to Pearse Gaels who beat Éire Óg in the semi-final of the Under-17 ‘B’ championship recently in Newtown, the final is against Rathnew and was to be played last night. Best of luck to all in the final especially our own large contingent.

As another season comes to a close we can look back on a decent year on the juvenile front as we have won three trophies which include two Division 2 leagues and an ‘A’ shield and the numbers at our Cúl Camps were up massively on last year; well done and a big thanks to all our juvenile chairman, managers, mentors, helpers etc. who put in Trojan work and plenty of hour’s over the season, we just couldn’t function without you all.

Don’t like to mention the Christmas word but it will soon be upon us so if you want to buy Newtown GAA merchandise get your order in early as there are always delays around the festive time. COOLBOY

We aimed to finish the year on a high in our final league match against Knockananna on Sunday last in Annacurra.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go to plan and we lost on a score-line of 6-8 to 3-8. We wish Knockananna every best wish in the league final against Valleymount.

As our football year draws to a close, we wish to thank all our footballers for committing to the club all year and playing with tremendous pride for the club, our management trio for all their hard work and dedication throughout the year and finally our supporters who travelled with us all around the county and cheered us on in our wins and losses in all weather conditions! Here’s hoping 2018 will be a better year for Coolboy GAA.

The Coolboy GAA AGM will take place on Saturday, November 11, at 8pm in Coolafancy Hall. All current members are asked to attend while new faces are always welcome!

ENNISKERRY

Men’s notes - it was a sad day in Aughrim Sunday week ago as our black and amber men were defeated for a second year in a row with again, just a one point difference. In what was a low scoring but adrenaline filled game the lads never gave up but what they gave on the day was unfortunately not enough. On a more positive note, a huge crowd travelled down to the county grounds to cheer the lads on and it was great to see so many new and regular supporters on the sideline. Commiserations to the players & management team.

Juvenile Update - there will be an end of year party this coming Friday in the clubhouse for all juvenile players kicking off at 7pm.

The under-13 Clan na Gael team are waiting for confirmation on who they will face in their championship semi-final in the coming weeks, opponent and venue are TBC but we will put it on our Facebook page when know and we’d encourage as much support as possible to cheer these lads on on the day.

Best of luck to Chase Scully and his Wicklow hurling development team who will play Westmeath and Carlow this coming Saturday.

Lotto - Winning numbers were 08, 12, 24, 29. No Jackpot winner, 7 Lucky Dips and 1 Sellers Prize receive €30 each. Jackpot on Oct 16th stands at €2,200. Thanks to all buyers and sellers of club lotto tickets for continued support.

The club would like to wish Seamus ‘Mossy’ O’Gorman a big happy birthday for last week when he celebrated the big 3-0.

BALTINGLASS

LOTTO - No winner of the €6,800 jackpot, numbers were 01, 06, 19, and 27.

We had a number of match three winners, well done all. This week’s jackpot is now €7,000 and the draw will take place in Horans Pub on Monday, October 16.

Once again thank you all for your continued support of the club lotto.

Remember, you can also play our lotto on line through our website www.baltinglassgaaclub. com or through our Facebook page.

Perhaps you might pass this website on to those who are away but would like to support the club and be in with a chance to win the ever increasing jackpot.

Most of our teams have finished up for the year and we want to send out a heartfelt thanks to each boy/girl/man and woman who have played in the green and white this year, we have fantastic talent in our club and are excited to see what the next few years hold.

A thank you to the parents of the juveniles for bringing them to training, travelling to matches, and for making the tea and sambos in the clubhouse.

And to all our managers and coaches, a massive thank you, without you we would not have the fantastic set up that we have.

Our under-13 boys were comprehensively beaten on Monday in their championship game against St Nicks. They now go on to play in the shield. Best of luck to this talented group of boys, we are all behind you.

Our under-7 and under-9 girls are still out in the Kildare league over the next few weeks so best of luck to all involved.

All roads led to Aughrim on Sunday and what a day it was, our Minor boys were in the Minor A ccounty final, the last time we were in a Minor A final was 2004 under St Josephs, and it was in the late 80s under Baltinglass GAA Club.

A massive achievement for this team of young teenagers, they have worked very hard showing great commitment and skill during the year.

On a wet and miserable day in Aughrim, the lads went out, wore the green and white with pride and fought their way to the win.

Luke O’Tooles put up a great match but the lads played exceptional football in the second half and finished up on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-9.

Each and every one of them have showed great skill and dedication the past year, the youngest on this team is just 14 years of age.

The joy in each of their faces at the end of the game shows the pride they carry for Baltinglass GAA, fantastoic young men.

Manager Sean O’Brien gave a great interview at the end of the match, the passion in his interview was immense and he was so very proud of the team, the lads have fantastic guidance and knowledge in Sean and their selectors - Noel Keogh, Rocky Nolan and Stephen Heaslip.

Well done to this management team today and for their hard work the last few years with this great bunch of lads.

The future is certainly bright for Baltinglass GAA. We would like to thank all the businesses who showed great support for the under-17s this week with the town painted green and white, also the supporters who travelled to their games this year and who came out to welcome the county champions home on Sunday night. A special mention to their mascot, Bridie!

Less than a week to go until our Development Draw, Tickets are €50 each and the draw takes place on Friday, October 27, in Horan’s.

Fantastic prizes on offer with the first prize being a brand new Dacia Sandero car.

All funds from this draw will go towards the development and upkeep of our facilities and we will use this as the main fundraising event this year.

We are very lucky that on a nightly basis our club is a hive of activity and that we have fantastic facilities to be able to host so many training sessions and games.

As always we are trying to develop these facilities and ensure they are kept to the highest standard - this, like most things in life, costs money.

On average the club costs €148,500 to run every year.

From the upkeep of the pitches, goalposts, stands to the development of dressing rooms, the gym, to the gear for the juveniles, to the end of season trips. For our club to keep running as greatly as it does and for us to continually improve our facilities we need to raise funds on an annual basis.

This year we are running our very own Development Draw. Each household in the club are being asked to buy just one ticket to support the draw.

Tickets are available from any member of the Club Committee or the Manager of any team. Once again we thank you for your continuous support.

KNOCKANANNA

Congratulations to Knockananna who won promotion to Division 2 on Sunday evening last in Annacurra defeating Coolboy in a very entertaining game on a score line of 6-10 to 3-08.

Both clubs were unable to field teams the previous two weekends due to injuries and weddings etc.

This was a home fixture for Knockananna but we agreed to give up home advantage as both clubs struggled to fulfil the fixture earlier in the day and Annacurra was the closest pitch with floodlights.

Coolboy also played their part and showed great sportsmanship as they had a soccer match at 2 pm in which seven of the GAA team were involved.

Although after 15 minutes you wouldn’t think so as Coolboy led 1-03 to 0-02. A few clever moves and good finishing from Eddie bracken and Keith Corrigan and Deano left us ahead 3-05 to 1-04 at half-time.

Both teams traded goals in a two-minute spell in the second half but it was Knockananna who finished the stronger, out scoring Coolboy 2-03 to no score in the final 10 minutes.

Deano had a brilliant game scoring 1-01 and contributed to a lot of good play particularly in the first half.

Paddy Byrne also had a marvelous game throughout. Promotion to the Intermediate ranks is an incredible feat for our club.

Any given year we have a panel of 21 or 22. But this year we had 17 players for the most part with only 10 training such was the injury list. Fellows literally played on one leg at times and we can only dream of what could have been with a full panel to choose from.

Next Saturday we play Valleymount in the league final in Baltinglass at 5.30pm. Valleymount were huge favorites for the league and rightly so as they won it pulling up, so all support greatly appreciated next Saturday

Knockananna GAA club would like to pass on their deepest sympathies to the Byrne family Moyne on the death of Paddy.

Paddy played football with Knockananna in the 40s and was secretary in 1958 and 59 and was present for the club’s 50th anniversary of the 1958 team in Knockananna in 2008.

Paddy was a loyal follower of the GAA and also played for Ballymanus and served the club for many years.

Paddy was a loyal, respectful, hard-working man and will be sadly missed by his family, neighbours and many friends.
