Dunne in top form

Paul finishes best of the Irish in 26th

-

PAUL DUNNE was the highest-placed Irishman at the Italian Open at the weekend as he finished tied for 26th with a score of -13 for the tournament.

The Greystones man scooped €57,344 for his efforts and also bagged 57,344 points in the Race for Dubai.

The tournament took place in Lombardy, northern Italy, from Thursday to Sunday.

Dunne started in fine fashion with a -4 score on the opening day which saw him in 17th.

A round of 69 on Friday meant that he dropped back to 27th but he enjoyed his best round of the tournament on Saturday as he shot five under par to drop to 13th place.

Dunne couldn’t match those efforts on Sunday though as he hit another round of 69 which saw him fall 13 places and finish in 26th.

It was still good enough to see him conclude the tournament as the best Irishman of the tournament and the 22nd best European finisher.

That saw Dunne match his super efforts in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship the previous week.

On that occasion, a score of -13 was enough to secure a tie for seventh.

Dunne will depart Italy with plenty of positives to take from the four days as he bested the likes of Serio Garcia, Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Graeme McDowell.
