Shillelagh and District Hunt all set for big day

-

THE 2017/18 Point to Point season began on October 8 in Castletown Geoghegan where Wexford’s national champion, Barry O’Neill, rode a double, one of which was trained by Colin Bowe.

Last Sunday, October 15, racing continued in Loughanmore on Saturday and Loughrea on Sunday where Barry had another winner.

Last year’s runner-up champion rider, Jamie Codd, was the in-form jockey last weekend riding one winner at Loughanmore and a double at Loughrea.

The Shillelagh and District Hunt are running their autumn Point to Point at Fairwood, Tinahely, on Sunday, October 22.

Racing gets under way at 2 p.m. with the feature race, the four-yearold maiden race which attracts the biggest number of entries.

This year the feature race is very very kindly sponsored by Winners Enclosure Bookmakers who have offices in Shillelagh, Tullow and Carnew.

This year, Fairwood will see some of the country’s leading lady riders in action as the Open Race is confined to lady riders and is the first part of a series very kindly sponsored by ITM (Irish Thoroughbred Marketing).
