St Gerard’s School
TRANSITION NEWS
The most recent TY event in the calendar was the visit to Kairos. This is a radio communications programme where the students write, produce and present their own work. It is a full day event and highlights the students’ abilities in a wide range of areas. Our Transition Year Information Evening, held earlier this term, highlighted the wealth and array of courses on offer to our TY’s to engage with during the course of their year. These range from Steer Clear, ECDL, Occupational First Aid, Public Access to Law and Photography to mention a few.

EQUESTRIAN NEWS
Our equestrian teams have been having some great success in the paddocks this term. Competing in Boswells, Coilig and most recently in Mullingar. In Mullingar both the Open Red and Blue teams performed superbly the Open Green green team were unfortunate not to get into a jump off with all four riders jumping brilliantly. The Blue Team finished in fourth place taking home the green rosettes. Overall Blue finished second, Red finished fifth and Green finished sixth. Superb standard being displayed all-round.
SOCCER SUCCESS
Congratulations to the St Gerard’s contingent of the Greystones United under-17 team who won the Dublin and District League Cup Final last Sunday – The Niccolai Schuster Cup (named after one of the victims of the balcony disaster in USA). The Greystones under-17s beat Celbridge 3-1 in the final. Well done, gentlemen.
KARTING
Second year Seán McCormack has just won the IAME X30 Junior Motorsport Ireland National Karting Championship. The X30 Junior Championship caters for drivers aged 11-15. The 2017 Championship went down to the wire with the leading two drivers competing right up till the final race which was held on the Tynagh track in Galway. The race was filled with controversy and after 11 laps Seán was hit by another kart from behind but he quickly recovered to go on to win the championship. Congratulations, Seán.
