Over 70 enter GAA club race
THE ‘Run the Ridge’ race took place on Saturday and featured a 20 km mountain ad trail run over the scenic Derrybawn Mountains, with the option of a shorter 8 km trail run in Derrybawn Woods.
This race was set up to raise funds for the local Laragh GAA Club and was organised with the help of experienced runners and organisers from Glendalough AC and MyRunResults.com.
Both events start and finish at the Laragh GAA grounds.
The Derrybawn Ridge is known as one of the most runnable and scenic routes in the Wicklow National Park featuring seven small peaks
The first male competitor over the line in the 20 km was Simon Williams with a time of 1:32:22. Michael Gombart was second on 1:35:02.
Javier Hernando De Lema was third with 1:36:09 and Paul Mahon finished fourth with a time of 1:37:36.
The male winner of the 8 km was Shane Parkinson who took only 45:33 minutes to finish.
Sean Hendrick was second with a time of 42:14, while Ronan Cosgrave was third on 42:55.
Hannah Carroll, 1:41:59, won the female 20 km, with Gillian Wasson, 1:47:53, in second.
Rosy Temple, 1:53:21, was third and Tanya Sheridan, 1:53:27, finished in fourth.
Sheila Byrne won the 8 km equivalent with a time of 40:35 minutes.
Second was Eileen O’Connor with 45:28 and in third Ruth Aitken on 46:11.
