Family cheat death as tree falls on car

October 1988

-

A young couple and their 10 week old baby narrowly escaped death or serious injury when a tree crashed down on their car last weekend.

The accident happened shortly after 12 noon on Friday of last week when the tree came down during stormy weather as the family were travelling on the Dublin-Bray Road at Wooodbrok, just outside Bray.

Simon and Stephanie Veale of Redcross and their 10-week-old baby girl Jessica were rushed by ambulance to nearby St Columcille’s hospital in Loughlinstown.

Miraculously, little Jessica escaped without any injury while here parents were treated for lacerations and whiplash injuries and given an X-Ray check.

All three were released later in the day by the hospital.

This was the second accident involving a falling tree along this stretch of Road from Shankill to Bray during stormy weather in less than a year.

In a previous incident, a young Bray man was killed and his fiancee seriously injured when a large tree collapsed near Crinken church.

That accident led to calls for stricter safety checks on the trees lining the road.
